Really interesting. Seems like another world. Everyone looks so friendly and open.
uh idk, seemed pretty normal to me? the old style camera did bring me back though.
So fucking friendly it's incredible for fucks sake.
Even though I was born that year, I'm getting a certain sense of nostalgia from this. Man, $0.59 for that giant drink? I guess the good old days really were better...
Idiots on /r9k/ and the like thinking that a 9-minute personal anecdote of a few people is representative of an entire year/decade/time period.
Go to a shop at night and lets see how many people will take it kindly that you are using a camera or let alone speaking to them
which part of
9-minute personal anecdote
did you not understand?
So fucking friendly it's incredible for fucks sake.
Well this is coming from an era where it's not every day to encounter someone filming with a video camera. The guy buying the sugar at 2:30 in the morning even asked if he was from a local TV station. If you were to try this nowadays they'd probably try to snap your iPhone in half :v:
Also hey what do you know your chances of being murdered, raped, assaulted or robbed were all about twice as high in 1987 than they were in 2011. I guess people were just that friendly!
He should record a video in the same 7-11 now, then rewatch it in 2039.
This guy has so many videos, the earliest I can find is 1968! It's weird to see this sort of thing; most of the tine you'd have to dig out the old cassettes and play them on the TV - I love how he's digitised them all Here's a 1992 one [editline]3rd June 2013[/editline] 1989 New Orleans Road Trip
Well this is neat It's way more interesting to see old videos of someone's life than stuff from iPhone-era onwards
Go to a shop at night and lets see how many people will take it kindly that you are using a camera or let alone speaking to them
maybe it's just me but yeah i do something like that here, this would happen. then again, my town is somewhat small, not the small "everyone knows each other" but yeah, something like that could veryily easily happen...
Also hey what do you know your chances of being murdered, raped, assaulted or robbed were all about twice as high in 1987 than they were in 2011. I guess people were just that friendly!
Why are you so set on crying about everything?
He should record a video in the same 7-11 now, then rewatch it in 2039.
Someone mentioned this in the comments. The guy said he wants to but the other guys who were in the video with him are living in different states now or something.
Why are you so set on crying about everything?
Everywhere else I've seen this video everyone's constantly been going on about how the world was a better place back then and oh look at how everyone was so nice I wish I could live then etc etc, which annoys me. Turns out there was less of that in this thread than I expected there was going to be, so I guess it was kind of an unnecessary pre-emptive strike or something.
It seems like such a nicer, simpler time.
It seems like such a nicer, simpler time.
When in reality the murder rate in 1987 in America was way higher than it is today.
Seems like it's straight out of a movie or somethin but honestly man there are a mighty lot of jackasses looking at this and envisioning it as the entire 80s or some shit. Nobody wants a damn camera in their face nowadays because it isn't that much of a novelty, any goddamned idiot can get their hands on a camcorder and flip shit and try to get easy views on YouTube to fuel their nonexistent job or some shit. Hate to generalize but that's just the product of the generation, you don't have to talk to someone face-to-face anymore so it kinda kills the real interaction between most people, and so what? Things change, it isn't necessarily completely bad. There are completely natural and cool conversations between random people all the time, it's just that when you pull out a camera it kills the mood rather than makes it better. It gives you a bad sense of hey I might be immortalized with this camera doing something embarrassing and stupid when back then whatever the hell you did would be forever embedded in history and it would be cool that some stranger has some footage of you way back, (probably.) Nobody wants to do things just for the hell of it.
Watching this at exactly 2:31 AM made this video absolutely perfect. Man, I like people.
i personally loved the good ol' days ya know, back when those blacks didn't have rights and women were my property, oh and the queers why, i must've beaten up 4 queers a day ahh such good ol' days
yeah when me and my dad used to take some ol' blacks and sometimes if i was a good kid, some queers out in the backyard and just beat them senseless hahaha good bonding times
i personally loved the good ol' days ya know, back when those blacks didn't have rights and women were my property, oh and the queers why, i must've beaten up 4 queers a day ahh such good ol' days
that wasn't 1987
People in those days were probably a little more amicable in front of a camcorder because there was no chance of having it put on Youtube or somewhere on the Internet.
Yeah, I just think it was simpler times. Like when you were a kid and the only things you cared about were your friends and goofing off. Didn't have to worry about much.
Mozzarella on poptarts. Brilliant.
69 cents for a huge soda holy shit
this is so friendly that it's painful
It seems like such a nicer, simpler time.
Seems like nostalgia googles. Today everything is better then it was before.
He should record a video in the same 7-11 now, then rewatch it in 2039.
"Ah, remember the good old days? look, there's an actual person serving rather than a robot, and the security turrets are just harmless cameras! And look at that girl, she isn't horribly disfigured by Space-aids!"
