Wal-Mart is advertising Halloween costumes for plus-size women as "Fat Girl Costumes" on its website.
The retailer's choice of wording, which was first reported by Jezebel, ignited an outcry on social media.

They're just appealing to their average customers. What's the problem?
Title made me think you could actually dress up as a Fat Girl
They're just appealing to their average customers. What's the problem?
That it's pretty rude? They could've literally left it as "plus size".
I bet somebody was preparing the listing and just wrote down the placeholder names, expecting to return to it and put something more officially acceptable onto the spot later, and forgot.
"outcry on social media"
anything but would be weird
I also like how the store implies Girls and Women are two separate genders.
they wanted to be recognized so there you have it

it joke
I also like how the store implies Girls and Women are two separate genders.
It's children's clothes and adult clothes.
it joke
And that makes it less rude somehow?
Well they're girls and they're fat so I don't see the problem here.
I honestly don't understand how this can be rude...
I mean if you're fat you're fat. Not that big of a deal.

There are people for whom stating the obvious is pretty insulting for some reason. Such is life in the denialand
And that makes it less rude somehow?
yes

Could argue that it's rude to define a person by the shape of their body, especially when the costumes are already labeled by a more... Iunno, 'technically correct' and less potentially offending term of 'plus size'.
Well they're girls and they're fat so I don't see the problem here.
The problem is that nobody likes to be called fucking fat
how hard is that to understand
walk up to a girl and tell her she's fat, see how that goes

This is in a whole different context though. Walmart isn't saying "hahaha you're fat". They're saying "These are some outfits for fat girls".
Plus size is essentially regular size at this point. Just make a "Thin Woman" catagory and no one will complain.

go get a retail job and then tell a girl "Oh no no no, ma'am, here, let me help you find the fat people clothing', see how that goes
don't be fat
you wouldn't use "faggot" or "retard" on your multinational corporation's website would you??
Those are insults. "Fat" is being overweight.
Yeah, we have to come up with different names for different things now because of how society uses it in a negative manner.
We can't use retard. It has to be special needs (or mentally disabled). We can't use old. It has to be senior citizens or physically over aged.
It's realistic, yes, but most people are accustomed to certain words that won't offend them, even if it has the same definition.
I watch too much George Carlin.
There's a difference in tone and overall meaning. Yeah, those words mean the same thing, but 'nigger' technically means the same thing as 'black'. We're not wrong in being offended when it's used like that, because it's harsh and mean.

are you going to try to tell me that being called 'fat' isn't insulting
I never understood how people act like labeling people as fat isnt an insult if said person is fat. Its like having a lanky section or shorty section. Both are extremely unprofessional and offensive but suddenly its okay to hate bigger people because lmao fatty.
-snip- what the fuck am I saying?
how do you guys not understand why this is rude and unprofessional?
you wouldn't use "faggot" or "retard" on your multinational corporation's website would you??
it kind of is but it's still funny
"fat" isn't nearly as offensive as faggot or retard, it doesn't even have to be an insult
Would you rather I say they aren't fat and make them feel even more insecure about themselves because they know they are?
Where the hell did you get that?
Would you rather I say they aren't fat and make them feel even more insecure about themselves because they know they are?
Ya man they need to be put in their place!
Oh wait a minute, does that kind of rhetoric ever lead to something good?
