One Step Closer to Coporate Owned Detroit: Detroit shows off new emergency vehicles paid for by corp
DETROIT, MI -- A chorus of sirens blared through Downtown Detroit on Thursday, but there was no emergency.
It was a parade of new police and EMS vehicles turned over to the city through corporate donations.
The keys to 10 ambulances and 15 police cruisers were handed over Thursday, and Mayor Dave Bing said another 98 vehicles are expected in the coming months.
A group of business leaders led by Roger Penske announced an $8 million donation for the new vehicles in March.
Officials presented the cars to the public at Hart Plaza, but Bing said the vehicles will be used in the neighborhoods, not exclusively in the city's central business areas in Downtown and Midtown.
"Theses business leaders understand how important the neighborhoods are," Bing said. Fire Commissioner Don Austin said he and the mayor met with a group of corporate executives earlier this year to make a pitch for public safety aid.
"They heard our plea," Austin said. "... We've taken our EMS system off life support."

The Chevrolet Caprices, Dodge Chargers and Ford Interceptor police cruisers cost between $45,000 and $50,000 each, according to the mayor's office.

Check out the pictures on the website, the new cars are very sexy indeed.
Is that how they're really going to look? It looks ghastly, they look more like nascars to me than actual police vehicles.

That is their final design.
Oh my god it looks like Crackdown but worse
How long before ED 209?
Ew, it's like a freaking advertisement.
It looks like they got some CEO's aspiring graphic designer kid to do the designs.
I can imagine Detroit being run by one big single corporation. Isn't that the backstory to a video game or something?
I was looking for an OCP logo, all I got was some silly decal scheme cop cars.
Haha I just realized, I spelled corporate wrong in the title
its better then nothing, which is exactly what they had before, so stop complaining.
although they really should have just gone with the good old black and white paint scheme
I think they look pretty neat, honestly. Detroit needs all the help they can get, and either way it's pretty dumb to scoff at pictures of skyscrapers on a city PD's vehicles, in my opinion. They're gonna help Detroit out a bunch, there's literally no reason to complain.

Yeah lmfao like "help 911 someone is raping my daughter right now but don't send the ugly police cars"
They look good to me. I think that privately owned cities could be a good idea, but that's such a radical thought I won't put more into it besides a mention.
So corporations are getting more powerful in Detroit.
HUMAN REVOLUTION WAS RIGHT

Dodge Chargers, running the streets.
They look nice, sure it looks tacky as hell. But I like tacky :v: I'm glad the city is getting help, plus a corporate owned major city might be a neat thing.
These were really needed, the old police cars had paint just chipping off and smoking like like freight trains.
They were on their last legs(wheels)

Yeah its the backstory to Robocop if you haven't watched the movie :v:
When you dial 911 after a once-in-a-lifetime tragedy, you ever feel the need for a Dr Pepper? After what happened to your mother, what's the worst that could happen?
So, uh, Robocop anyone?
"Theses business leaders understand how important the neighborhoods are,"
Gollum?
Gollum?
sorry :(

Public buses not turning a profit? Shut em down. Fire Department taking up too large a portion of the budget? Make it a subscription-based service. Public Schools costing too much? Maybe we could include some hat-based microtransactions...
They're even using a variation of the police cars from RoboCop. This is kind of getting ridiculous how closely they're following that backstory.

What are you talking about? Why are you bringing up my dead mother?
What are you talking about? Why are you bringing up my dead mother?
Yes. I absolutely know who you are and absolutely knew you had a dead mother. I wasn't making a joke about the news article. At all.

yes, lets take the last shred of power out of the hands of the people
for-profit population centers could never go wrong
i was hoping the cars would have like, coca-cola logos on them and shit that'd be funny
