I use the Gimp. Trying to click the objects around it doesn't work-the background is too detailed for that.
Any suggestions?
Here's the image I want to make transparent:

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I can't find any other forum related to art.
im not sure if this is the same for GIMP, but im pretty sure you just leave the BG blank and save it as a png. That works for flash so i hope it helps
Hey.
The "click objects around" or magic selection tool doesn't know what it is you're trying to remove. What it does is select areas around where you clicked that have the same color shade of where you clicked, you can adjust its sensitivity. As you see, in your background, your image has lots of different colors in the background, so that wouldn't work.
Instead, you're going to have to lasso your way around the character manually, invert the selection, then delete. I don't know how that's done in Gimp because I've never used it, but I've done it for you in Photoshop:

Also remember to save as PNG or GIF, as they're the two formats that best support transparency. (JPG doesn't do transparency.)
Not the best quality, because the image itself was pretty pixelated when zoomed in, but it should look okay in a smaller size. It looks kinda poopy too, you just chose a bad picture methinks. I actually had to use the eraser and manually erase the background, sometimes pixel by pixel. Time consuming but usually looks better than with the lasso.
