• Self-Repairing Buildings?

Apparently, this woman is working on a kind of cell that, although not technically "alive" (as it has no DNA,) can perform "living" actions. She's suggesting using these protocells as manmade coral, making them calcify on wooden Venetian supports to save the city from a sinking death. I think this idea could be taken further and used to make superbuildings, the kind that repair themselves on command with the help of these little critters. What does Facepunch make of it?
too expensive.
She blinks too fucking much.
Obviously, too expensive.
shes british.
This is the same process being employed in the design of the Tokyo pyramind thing. Carbon nanotubes which for all practical reasons, construct themselves under the correct conditions. So you grow the building in the direction you want to. ... Wait won't this entirely destroy the construction worker's role? EDIT: why dumb lol. I didn't make it up, this stuff is actually being developed.
Since they are carbon-based, meaning the raw material supply is ubiquitous and the only limit is the amount of labs that carry the equipment to make these things, wouldn't it get cheaper as the idea becomes more widespread, though?

But once that has happened, we'll all be living in an utopia, where no one has to work, and everything is free. IE: Not in a thousand years.

It's revolutionary, it's ingenious, and it would solve a fuckton of problems. In other words, we'll never hear about it apart from the R&D phase.
I could see this happening, but nowhere in the near future.
Could have came in handy on 9/11/01. "OH SHIT THAT PLANE JUST HIT THE BUILDING!" "don't sweat it bro, look" *hole heals up*
That's pretty cool, but I get the feeling it won't be added upon and expanded. Idea's like these just seemed to be scrapped faster than Tony the Tiger playing Slamball
she has pretty hair
I hate to sound idealistically naive, but this is really something that could change the world =/
I saw the title and thought TF2. v:frown:v
She is hott. I like her accent.
*plane crashes into twin towers* *tower heals up like a fucking terminator* ha ha HA HA HA!

I laughed at the Stockholm ad-thingy at the end.
I'd hit that.
would this not take many years?

For some reason all I could think of was taking off her clothes.
She reminds me of the Merchant from Killing Floor.
God damn her lips are so fucking big

Anyone else thinking botox?
Anyone else thinking botox?
No, she can still move her face.
