Designed to hide urban eyesores like electrical boxes in lush green parks, or an air conditioner sitting outside a historic building, the algorithm uses a series of images—taken at various angles around the object—to generate a camouflage pattern that can be turned into a covering.
The goal is to make the object less noticeable at a glance, because unlike a soldier, an air conditioner can't adjust its position and hunker low to the ground, or slip behind a tree to help further disguise itself. In other words, it may not be a perfect invisibility cloak just yet, but as a way to improve aesthetics, there's a good chance Voldemort won't notice that hideous breaker box on the wall. [

The first thing that came to my mind was Ghost In The Shell rather than the Stealth Boy, but eh.

Vid link. I have no idea why it doesnt embed, somebody help me.
does it come with psychotic break downs and blue skin?
This is a pretty cool invention for prettying up the environment.

..You really think that's what it'll be used for?

- Hey Mike
- What?
- They really believed it's for electrical boxes

They look like glitches in the matrix
you realize it doesn't work for moving things, right?
..You really think that's what it'll be used for?
Yup, but i'm not saying its the only thing it's going to be used for.

Give science a few years and they might even sort that out.

I don't see what else it'll be used for. Sure anything that's not moving and won't be moving can have this applied to it, but even in the military there's not much use.
And then people accidentally walk into them because they don't see them.

Hiding an FOB or scout team as they sit in one position

Better start practicing my animal skull worshiping.

Then that makes it a real world version of Octocamo.

Hide 4 guys in an elevator they're too heavy for.

Damn, I had this idea years ago!

The generation based on surroundings at different angles thing I mean
Nobody here but us trees

Not in a manner like this. This is an algorithm for printing camouflage covers for fixed positions, and requires cameras that are actively looking at the object from a distance.
I think if a stealth suit is ever made it will basically need to be a skin of tiny photoreceptors and LCDs that all match the light level and color of their immediate surrounding. Either that or having "intelligent" cloth materials that match the physical properties of cuttlefish or octopus skin.
Even then though ghillie suits and the like may always be more practical and far more cost effective.
This is really cool, I can't believe that video and I can't wait to rack myself on a hidden electrical box during a walk through the park.

...Rack yourself?
Masturbate?

For one, I'm pretty this requires you to like print the camouflage that you then put on the thing, so it wouldn't work for scout teams. Second, FOBs are large and there's movement going on inside, and I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't help much once you've actually got the pos of them.

Seeing as OLEDs are being sufficiently developed now, I could see them used to create just this, since they are flexible, fairly low power, etc.
I can see a lot of young kids running into these when they go out to play at a park. but thats some pretty cool stuff. Some of the examples in the video I couldnt even see the electrical box
