We’re sure many of you have seen or heard about Notch’s post-Minecon tweets, which were not what we expected to see when we got off the plane from Minecon – we’ve had a sleep now and recovered a bit, so this is our response:
We are very disappointed by these tweets from someone we admire and respect. We can understand that it was the morning after the deadmau5 party and Notch was very tired, but we are still fairly upset. The quotes and actions that Notch attributed to us were not said by us or published anywhere by us. Therefore we are surprised and confused about where this stuff has come from - especially since the only time we spoke to Notch was at the interview.
Regarding dropping f-bombs at the show - we apologise for this, but had rehearsed the whole show in front of the organisers and half of Mojang and they had approved it. We were given no guidelines or oversight in the weeks leading up to Minecon and there were ample opportunities at the rehearsal for Mojang to inform us of problems, such as being careful about swearing, which is pretty common in our youtube videos.
Out of all the tweets that Notch sent out, most hurtful was the accusation that we told a kid to “fuck off” and crossed out another signature – which is something we would never ever do.
We loved spending time with fans and were overwhelmed by how many people were there to support us and give us gifts. Simon has enough Jaffas to last him until the middle of 2012. The problem was that Minecon is a new show and organisation was pretty bad, and when we came to the scheduled signing sessions, nothing had been set up for us and we had to scrabble around to fetch tables, ropes and pens ourselves. With some younger kids around, it was our priority to make sure everything was safe, as we have seen injuries in the past.
This lack of organization contributed to long and confused lines and we were heartbroken to have to turn away so many people when we ran out of time. Simon can only handle a certain amount of time between cups of coffee and nicotine tablets before collapsing, but we made a real effort to get out there and managed to do about six hours of signing. Although we were frustrated, we would never have treated fans in the way that Notch suggested we did.
We were also unhappy and surprised that a week before Minecon, Mojang informed us that they had sold the rights to livestream our show and content to IGN – they hadn’t asked us, they hadn’t spoken to us – they just sold it. Because of this, we nearly cancelled the trip, but decided to say “balls to it” and come anyway, because we felt we owed it to the fans. Hannah actually spoke with IGN directly earlier, and they agreed to take their video down and let us put the videos up on our channel, so a big thanks to them for that.
We were not paid, and never demanded to be paid. We asked for some support, and Mojang said they could offer us two hotel rooms for the duration of the stay and a small boardroom to rest in. We spent a huge amount of money on flights, rooms, food and equipment for the 10 people that we brought along to support us, act as security, make videos/posts and generally help out. We also gave away 100 special t-shirts for free.
The reason we came to Minecon is because we wanted to thank you guys and meet the community that we love and are a part of. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are now without you guys, and so we decided to eat the costs of attending and just have fun. This is why we spent our panel giving a voice to loads of talented people that couldn’t attend but have made Minecraft what it is today.
We’re not gonna stop making videos, not going to stop loving you guys, and hopefully we’ll see you at more gaming conventions in the future.

i'm confused. what DID make notch post those tweets then?
Seeing their faces ruins my image of them, matching disembodied voices to faces.
I'm confused what's going on here. Does Mojang own Yogscast? To be quite honest, I'd barely even heard of them, so I feel like I'm not really getting the whole story here regarding the relationship between the two.
4chan and Yogcast were basically the 2 main media outlets that made minecraft so popular. Notch turned his back to both of them.
i'm confused. what DID make notch post those tweets then?
apparently he was tired.
Rofl, I'm thinking alcohol had something to do with it though.

Typically 4chan is actually always responsible for making things popular haha, melting pot of information, as long as the topic is good enough.

Yeah, you don't see a "woo, yogscast!" splash.
Wait so what did notch do?
Inb4 another shitstorm

I'm with Notch on this one.
I'm with Notch on this one.
Ditto, if yogscast is why minecraft is so popular, why did I have no idea who they were before 2 weeks ago?
I kinda feel like I want to side with Yogscast on this, I've been watching their vids for probably half a year now and they really don't come off as being assholes. I mean, Notch is the one who went off with the mom insults at the interview, pretty immature even for a joke.
4chan and Yogcast were basically the 2 main media outlets that made minecraft so popular. Notch turned his back to both of them.
Bollocks. Yogscast is definately a catalist, but Seananners and Reddit contributed far more. 4chan is out of the question. I was playing Alpha, as introduced by Facepunch and a random youtuber, before there was really any threads about Minecraft on 4chan at all.
They didn't make Minecraft as popular as it is. It was plenty popular by the time they started videos on it, and then both Minecraft and Yogscast became even more popular from it.

They have 1.2 million subs. They honestly are very popular- almost all of their videos are on the front page of Youtube the day they come out.
I dont really care to be honest.
As long as Mojang keeps making fun games and Yogscast keeps on entertaining, I think the world will keep on spinning.
can anyone explain whats going on. this is really out of context and doesnt explain anything
yogscast is garbage and was never a major reason for minecraft getting popular. that was reddit and facepunch all the way.
[editline]23rd November 2011[/editline]
I'm on neither side in this argument though because yogscast sucks and notch is a dick
4chan and Yogcast were basically the 2 main media outlets that made minecraft so popular. Notch turned his back to both of them.
They sure had a role in making Minecraft big, but I think you're giving them way more credit than they deserve.
Think about all the major newspapers that have covered Notch and Minecraft, all the gaming websites and magazines. Think broader and you'd realize that.

No. Minecraft was spammed on /v/ after the grass and wood block update. 4chan is the reason this spread out to communities like facepunch.

big 4chan nut here, I saw it on facepunch almost a month before 4chan. It wasn't on 4chan until almost alpha, I found it through facepunch right at the beginning of survival test

After Minecon, Notch tweeted that Yogscast, who do Minecraft videos and are Youtube celebrities and guests at Minecon, called Mojang a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company, talked behind their backs, said fuck at the event several times (in front of children, since the event had children there), and supposedly joked about, or actually did, it's unclear, struck out Notch's signature on a kid's minecon mouspad when signing their names on it and said or wrote fuck. He then said he's going on vacation.
Yogscast are saying otherwise, obviously. Others have gotten involved, and Notch has apologized, I guess.
But I'm a believer of the theory that this is all just a big joke. In their interview of Notch, they were making masturbation jokes and such, so obviously Notch doesn't mind obscene humor. At one point, Notch tells them that he "just woke up in Notch's body" and Simon says something about how if that happened to him, he would just start trolling everyone, and then Notch said "and then I'd immediately go on vacation".
It seems too fitting to me that just after that interview was posted, Notch made the comments and immediately went on vacation, and Yogscast put off responding for several days.

'Spammed' on /v/? I saw a few threads for it but I never saw anything frequent or major about it before the Halloween update.

Sigh, in such case then you could likewise say that Notch made it this far by himself because everything is coming from his mouth...
strawman
no matter who is right or wrong i think it is extremely unprofessional to bash people over twitter like notch did, just spewing words without even backing them up with proof
Yogscast were fairly late to the party regarding Minecraft however they have done something to help boost the community.
I still think Valve were the greatest contributers mind to the popularity considering after they blogged about it the MC servers were up and down for a week :v:
i dont think yogscast have helped minecraft itself very much, however they have been reallu successful in promoting mods from the community

Oh my fucking god, could you try any harder to start up more drama?
Jesus dick, how about we drop this shit? It's not important to the slightest. Mods, do something for fucks sake.

What?
Wait so what did notch do?
because no one wants to read the thread about it, notch accused the Yogscast of signing something for a kid, crossing it the signature out and writing 'fuck you' (this turned out to be entirely false, but the yogscast admit they did use harsh language on stage - however it was also mentioned mojang never, ever set any guidelines on it, and never bothered to contact them to edit their script either).
He also accused them of demanding a hotel (The yogscast stated they asked if multi-millionaire notch could help pay for a hotel, they had to pay for Minecon tickets + Plane ride there for 13 people total + food & accommodations, not to mention they weren't paid a single cent) as well as accused them of treating their fans like shit (and again, Minecon was so poorly organized that there was no signing booth for them, they tried to set one up ASAP and signed as much as they could, but had to start turning fans away because they had to clean up and leave, etc). Mojang also sold their rights to IGN (aka: all of their content is now theirs) but luckily enough they got it right back.
Basically notch just accused them of being complete assholes.
No one knows why.
And frankly, no one really gives a fuck besides the fanboys of either community.
he's going on vacation again?
Yes ( proof: http://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/138765717452496896 )
Thought Notch and those dudes were best buddies. The Yogscast guys never gave me the impression that they're dicks, at all.
So far it seems that Notch is just terrible at handling stressful events. And it was to be expected he'd go on holiday after the Minecraft release. Most devs do that after a month of crunch time.
he's going on vacation again?
As of Nov 21, a few hours after calling out Yogscast, or so his Twitter says.
