The gamer from Kansas, US, had originally run out of his property when he noticed the flames, according to ABC15.
However, after remembering his beloved game console was still inside, he decided to return.
The man managed to get the Xbox out but suffered for his efforts after inhaling smoke while making the rescue.
Luckily the man didn't suffer any serious injuries but the fire did cause $80,000 (£48,467) worth of damage to his home.
:downs:
At least he didn't die. As it stands, it's just a silly decision to make.
not even a ps4 what a scrub
If I felt confident enough to go in I would try to save my computer or something.

But not an xbox.
I'd be tempted to haul out as much as I could on the way out of my house if it was on fire depending on how bad it is, but going back in after leaving just to grab a console is a bit of a stretch. That wasn't worth the risk at all, at least go for something that can't easily be replaced.

I don't think I could carry my computer
I would have to go down two flights of stairs
Here's the twist: fire was started by the graphics card on his computer.

Tack on the $500 dollars if the the Xbox was lost.
$80,500.
.6% of the total costs. Good thing he saved it, otherwise think of how much more he would have to pay in damages!
I think my essential documents would be the thing I save.
I have offsite backups of all my digital memories and everything else is covered by insurance.
that is the opposite of a good idea
I'd save it too for future uses
Weak games right now think bout what the future might bring?
to be fair, it would have caused another $100,000 of damage had he not saved it so it was probably worth it.

How would it have caused another 100,000 in damages?

That's a lot of selfies.

emotional distress
Seeing as it has all his data and save games he probably didn't want to lose all that

Anywho, still got the games I guess?
That said, I wouldn't have done what he did. But for some people, belongings are more special to them.

i would go back for my wiiu.
snip
I could retrieve my laptop sure...
Photos, sure...
Gameboy, plus other forms of small entertainment. Yes...
Xbox? I see very little, to no point getting it.
I would save my wallet so I can buy another one. Logic.
Xburn
why would you go in to save the source of the fire thats just silly
Seeing as it has all his data and save games he probably didn't want to lose all that
I thought that all the save data was on *the cloud*.
This guy deserves a medal for his fan-boy-ism!
A true hero of our generation.
I have data that isn't backed up offsite on hot-swap drives so I can grab them and run rather than dragging some hefty computer out. Now a game console can just burn up the data on that is nowhere near as valuable as some of the data on my computers.
Depending on how bad the fire is I'd rip my computer out of the wall and run. I can get new cords, monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. But, the stuff I have on here and the amount of money I put into it is way too valuable to just let it stay in a fire.
But I surely wouldn't even attempt to save my PS3... but, shit, I'd try to save GTA5. That's really the only thing worth it in that spot.
The way I see it, he was about to lose everything, so why not try to save at least one thing he cherishes.

I'd be that guy that just grabbed stuff on the way out. If I want it, and it's on the way, I'm bringing it. I'd look like I just robbed a yard sale coming out of the house
The guy probably worked for Microsoft and knew that Bill Gates would have his ass on a platter if he let the Xbox burn.
