I don't understand why he had to unfold them. She should have just taken them as payment. They are legal US tender, regardless of their shape.

It would make sense that they have to, otherwise the person at the window could just say things like "Oh, you paid with a twenty and a fifty - can't accept that".

why does this make the man out to be some sort of mischievous rebel? not paying the ticket and going to court would fit that label better than this. this sounds like something i would do just to make it more interesting or fun, paying traffic tickets is fucking boring

I'm sure he has other things he has to do besides play childish games with idiots. If you got a issue, specifically with tickets we do have a thing call traffic court where you can fight it. Also FYI, YES it is legal tender but there is no federal law saying a store/organization has to accept it. IE look at a lot of stores that say they don't accept any cash over 20 dollars. Technically speaking debts have to take whatever is offered, but he is paying a FINE. He does not owe anyone money, he just has to pay a fine, go to court, or sit it out in jail. It's really all about how you word stuff and write the contract.
