• A grammar lesson for Facepunch - regarding "it's" and "its"

The cat ate its shit The cat ate it's shit The first one is correct, the second one is saying that "The cat ate it is shit", or "The cat ate. It's shit" I see all of you making this mistake. I am just surprised you haven't learned this when studying English. James reminded me of another one, the "could of" syndrome. It's incorrect to say "could of", but correct to say "could have". Could've is could have.
Could of I hate it.
Could of I hate it.
Yeah that's another one too, I'll add that.
My dog eats his shit
The cats sit on there shit
This is good. You should probably tell us about plurals, like this: GPs or GP's Which is right? Find out in Anteep2's next thread!
Why do you use an example of a cat eating shit?
It's tragic that you made this thread.
The cat ate its shit The cat ate it's shit The first one is correct, the second one is saying that "The cat ate it is shit", or "The cat ate. It's not that we... They? Whatever. Don't know the rule, but pressing the appostrophe key requires more work than pressing nothing. Simple equation really - 1>0.
you're gay your gay
Cool now I have to go feed my dog or else it'll eat it's own shit. [editline]01:07PM[/editline] See it's funny because this thread is about the proper use of the words "its" and "it's" and I used it incorrectly.
One of these threads comes along every couple of months. If you looked about, you'd see most users have quite a good grip of basic punctuation.
I don't see why its a problem :downs:?
This is good. You should probably tell us about plurals, like this: GPs or GP's Which is right? Find out in Anteep2's next thread!
GPs.
Thanks, nobody else knew this you're a hero
GPs.
And James is right.
I was gonna make one of these threads. But then I thought I'd wait until someone else did. and its reaping it's rewards onto youre face [editline]09:11PM[/editline]
GPs.
what about NPCs? Or 80's?
I think it's "GPs." BUT I'M DEFINITELY NOT SURE. By the way, definitely is spelled with an 'e' at the end, ridiculous has an ''i" at the start, and confident ends with "ent."
Please add something about comma splices, and how FPers need to stop using them in place of colons in thread titles. e.g. "Dogs, nature's awesomest animals" "Ghosts, are they real?" etc I hate it and I want to permaban everyone who does it
Don't forget to mention your, you're; their, they're, and there. Your is possessive: Your car is on fire. You're (you are) is addressing someone: You're a moron Their is possesive: Their cat exploded They're (They are) is for addressing people/animals: They're in the building There is for location: The ball is over there.
what about NPCs? Or 80's?
Those are both correct I think. [editline]01:12PM[/editline]
By the way, definitely is spelled with an 'e' at the end, ridiculous has an ''i" at the start, and confident ends with "ent."
My favourite is when people spell "retarded" as "retarted"
I was gonna make one of these threads. But then I thought I'd wait until someone else did. and its reaping it's rewards onto youre face [editline]09:11PM[/editline] what about NPCs? Or 80's?
NPCs and 80s.
The second one is correct. You put an apostraphe in if if it's refering to something it owns. In this case, it's the shit.
NPCs and 80s.
Really? It just doesn't look right to me. The 80s part, I mean.
The second one is correct. You put an apostraphe in if if it's refering to something it owns. In this case, it's the shit.
This is why the mistake often happens, however you're wrong.
You're cat ate it's shit?
The second one is correct. You put an apostraphe in if if it's refering to something it owns. In this case, it's the shit.
NO, NO YOU DON'T raagrehghagrgaheg grammar rage
Really? It just doesn't look right to me. The 80s part, I mean.
I think 80's can be acceptable, but technically there shouldn't be an apostrophe.
