Officials Are Evacuating the City in Kazakhstan Where Villagers Fall Asleep At Random
Over the past few months, the town of Kalachi, Kazakhstan, has suffered yet another round of the mystery illness that causes its villagers to fall asleep at random for no apparent reason. The problem was first reported in 2010, and government officials—perhaps spurred on by a recent burst of international attention as well as the scale of the latest flare-up—have finally upped their efforts to get to the root of the bizarre plague. At least two other towns nearby have reported similar symptoms from their residents.
They haven't ruled out a contagious pathogen, and their solution is to geographically disperse the population? I am not sure if thats the best solution.
It's not that unusual. The Greeks and Italians suffer from outbreaks of this disease from time to time.
This isn't a mass case of narcolepsy?
It is apparently blamed on nearby uranium mines, but a town closer to the mines did not have a single case of it
Carbon Monoxide?
Things like this have happened before. Entire towns have been wiped out by it. Often due to gasses being released and collecting in the valley housing them.
Oh yeah, there was a village on a lake in Africa (?) that had a methane eruption from underneath the lake. Everyone in town fell asleep and died. Could be a similar thing.
But the article says:
"Carbon monoxide poisoning doesn't just make you fall down and go to sleep,"

"There's a progress of symptoms: nausea, headache, [and] eventually you can have confusion and unconsciousness. But you move slowly through that progression."

"You can have a big enough concentration at one spot [to knock someone out immediately]," Stolbach admits. "But if it's big enough to knock you out [that quickly], you'd be in a coma."
I am not sure, cant be carbon monoxide because the people just fell asleep and wake up after some time.
I've heard of this problem in Mexico. Might be relative.
i have this disease when i'm in school, please find cure

?
EDIT: whoops didnt read the last 2 paragraphs of the article, they actually mention that they think its mass hysteria, but want to make sure.
I don't think we need to worry until 5 pylons are built in a ring about the region 4 years before they were designed.
Once that happens, we can expect the whole world to black out for 127 seconds 15 years later, and during that time everyone looks into a single, specific date in the future.

Real shame the series never went far. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Reminds me of that plague in Europe where people just danced.
Isn't sleeping sickness a documented and extremely serious disease?

It's scary that there are so many illnesses we don't even understand, or know about, yet.

If it's being released from underground it could come up in bubbles, essentially creating waves, but if the villagers aren't doing it in sync then I got no clue :v:
I still would suspect some kind of gas though.

Kazakhstan has best uranium
A documentary, for those interested.

iirc it ended fine, rather than stretching it to stupid lengths.
Gotta rewatch it now.
Maybe they should cut down on the vodka

That show ended terrible and left us with a major cliffhanger
This honestly sounds like a set-up for an X-Files episode, pretty strange.
