All my life I just thought my nose was fucked up but holy shit it's all normal!
The nasal cycle is the alternating obstruction of the nostrils in humans. It is a physiological congestion of the nasal concha due to selective activation of one half of the autonomic nervous system by the hypothalamus.
This cycle, which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system as described above, had a mean duration of two and a half hours.
Some postulate that this alternating positional obstruction has the purpose of causing a person to turn from one side to the other while sleeping.
I'm sure there's at least a few of you FP'ers that knew this already but I'm so surprised that I've never ever known about this. I've told a few of my friends and apparently not many people realize this. I guess no one ever brings it up.
Now I'm gonna pay so much attention to it. I gotta check to see when it changes, time how long it takes and everything. Now I have another thing to do when I'm bored.
i fucking hate when that happens. especially when you can feel it change nostril.
I learnt something today.
I hate that so much.

I have never felt this, I must pay more attention
Didn't know that. Always thought it was just me being slightly sick, and an annoyance. Thank you, sir.

Really? It's a pretty weird experience.
Yay, it's normal. :downs:
Oh wow, that's something I didn't know
thanks for bringing this to my attention! :D
Remember them informational threads we would get? Like about piss and shivers?
I miss those.
woah
:crossarms: Did not know.
I can only breathe normally through my nose about one day a month. Unless I push up on my nose.
Holy shit, I just thought of this question a few days ago. And then suddenly there's a thread about it.
Right now I can breathe through both nostrils, but the right one is ever so slightly less obstructed.

I gotta take note of the time and shit so that I can figure out how often I switch.
thats neat, I didn't know that.
This always fucking happens when I'm trying to sleep.
I roll from side to side, and one nostril is always clogged.
Thanks OP.
This happens to me all the time when I try to fall asleep. One of the worst feelings ever.
This happens to other people?
Jesus, I never knew
SO THAT'S WHY.
holy shit.
I can usually switch which side is clogged by lying down on the side that is open. At least I used to think that, it may just be that at one point it had to switch :v:
For a second I was like "Haha some stupid thread about a guy and his weird problems" and then I realized I could only feel me breathing out one nostril.
:derp:
Thank you for posting this. I was wondering about this for years, and I was starting to believe that maybe I broke my nose and it never healed right or that something was stuck up there but moving around, I had no idea.
Hmm, wow. The more you know.
I actually have a deviated septum so I can't even breath out the other one too much if I tried.
thank god i thought it was a problem but i guess not.
The more you know... I thought my nose just sucked.
I thought I was always sick...
I just told my parents and they didn't even know this existed at all. Now I feel compelled to tell everyone this, until it's common knowledge.
Cannot stop focusing on the fact one of my nostrils is blocked.
