• Iran bans Pokemon Go
Good luck trying to catch 'em all in Iran. The country's High Council of Virtual Spaces has officially banned the Pokemon Go app, making Iran the first country to do so. As for why, High Council of Virtual Spaces wasn't very specific. The BBC reported that the High Council claimed the game caused "security concerns," but it neglected to elaborate on what those were. We have our guesses, though. Pokemon Go can encourage players to get creative with their sleuthing at all hours of the night, which can prove troublesome. Trespassing concerns are prevalent, too—so much so, there's even a class-action lawsuit in the works in the United States centered on that very issue. It's also possible that Iran wants to stop the "Pokemon effect" of tens (if not hundreds) of people all hanging out in the same area for hours at a time, or even the few cases where Pokemon Go players are robbed or assaulted when walking around Pokestops in particular areas. According to the BBC, Iran was contemplating a ban last month, but officials were waiting to see whether the country could work with the game's creator, Niantic Labs, over potential restrictions. We're not sure what Iran was considering proposing—whether that meant preventing people from playing the game for too many hours each day or banning playing within particularly sensitive geographic areas, for example.
http://www.pcmag.com/news/346824/iran-is-first-country-to-ban-pokemon-go
I'd like to know exactly what security concerns they're talking about. [editline]a[/editline] Without that knowledge there's no way I can take this shit seriously.
High council of virtual spaces? That sounds pretty rad.
To the surprise of no one, really. One would expect certain regimes to be rather unhappy at the game's modus operandi for all kinds of reasons.
Iran has a thing against people getting in groups, so I am not surprised.
High council of virtual spaces? That sounds pretty rad.
Sounds like something you'd find in "1984", if it was set in modern times.
The 7th of august 2016 will be remembered as the day the people of Iran overthrew their oppressive regime.
Pocoupmon Go.
So now with the banning of Pokemon Go in one country, we'll be getting Chinpokomon Go soon right?
So now with the banning of Pokemon Go in one country, we'll be getting Chinpokomon Go soon right?
better be the first fucking episode of south park or someones getting smacked.
Pocoupmon Go.
Right now, theres a guy in Iran going "I KNEW IT!"
Sounds like something you'd find in "1984", if it was set in modern times.
It's begun, Half-Life 2 in real life has begun... or has it?
High council of virtual spaces? That sounds pretty rad.
That's just the formal name for the GMF.
It's begun, Half-Life 2 in real life has begun... or has it?
I don't think City 17 or 1984 had Pokemon Go, although there's always time for a source mod or re-edit.

Iran is aware of this, and would rather their citizens not being tracked by the US Government.
Don't the majority of Iranians use VPNs to get around restrictions like this anyway?
What is it with Iran being so uptight about shit? Does it say "NO FUN ALLOWED" in the religious texts they follow?
What is it with Iran being so uptight about shit? There is also a nationwide holocaust denial in Iran meaning that if they were to go to /pol/ they'd agree with what /pol/ says against the jews
You do that at home, you dont play PokeGO at home. I guess police may check on Pokemon players, who just happen to be easy to notice. I guess playing Pokemon in Iran will remind one of Watch Dogs. [editline]7th August 2016[/editline] As in stealth, only more fun
No reason why you can't use a VPN on your phone. Would probably even save data if you have compression on.
Iran rules

Their government wants to limit Western influence but that doesn't mean there's no fun allowed. Besides, almost everyone under the age of 30 in Iran listens to American music, watches American movies and TV shows, and wear Western style clothing, even the women, even though that's all supposedly banned.
Iran rules
Yet another oxymoron to add to my personal dictionary.
