Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) — and the mostly pro-ACA crowd wasn’t having any of it. Bill Akins — chair of Pasco County, Florida’s Republican Party — told the roughly 250 people in attendance that his problem with the Affordable Care Act is that “there is a provision in there that anyone over the age of 74 has to go before what is effectively a death panel.” As soon as the words “death panel” left Akins’ mouth, the crowd erupted in boos, jeers, and chants of “liar, liar.” “It’s in there folks. You’re wrong!” Akins replied, falsely, as Bilirakis tried to restore order. Akins then calls the angry crowd “children.”
ThinkProgress
Jesus how condescending can you be
"This just in, the GOP has barely been representing even their own constituents for awhile now, more at 11"
"Okay, children. All right, children."
Who does this condescending dick-bag think he is anyway? Giving a serious virtual middle finger to this asshole.
“It’s in there folks. You’re wrong!” Akins replied, falsely, as Bilirakis tried to restore order. Akins then calls the angry crowd “children.”
"Please believe me! I'm right and you're wrong! You're just clueless children!" Fuck this guy
seems like the republicans didnt bother to read it either... the Death Panel he refers to is an idiotic mischaracterization of a provision granting End of Life counciling for seniors over the age of 74, it does not establish murder boards like the GOP scaremongered
Who does this condescending dick-bag think he is anyway? Giving a serious virtual middle finger to this asshole.
I think a certain representative has gotten way too comfortable. I smell a primary candidate coming his way.
Here's the actual provision of the bill he's talking about by the way. It just has to do with providing voluntary counseling for elderly patients about end-of-life preparation - wills and so forth. And it was apparently so controversial (thanks to Sarah Palin and her "death panel" bullshit) that is wasn't even included in the final ACA. In other words, Akins is not only a condescending prick, he's also a factually incorrect condescending prick.
Can someone explain me on the term "death panel"? From what I can understand from it, is it like you get judged whether you are worthy of health care or not?
I can't wait until the Republican party either dies or undergoes massive reform. I'm getting so fucking sick of this shit.
Can someone explain me on the term "death panel"? From what I can understand from it, is it like you get judged whether you are worthy of health care or not?
The term "death panel" was concocted by Sarah Palin to strike an emotional chord with paranoid voters. The original provision, which was part of the original draft of the ACA, allowed for healthcare providers to counsel patients on end-of-life preparation like wills, trusts, etc., and have that counsel covered under insurance. It also legally protects people who speak on behalf of elderly patients with dementia and other disabilities that prevent them from seeking informed counsel. It has nothing to do with judging someone worthy of care or not. As always, the reality of legislation is way more complicated and nuanced than politicians and opposition leaders want it to seem. Here's the provision in question. Even a quick skim reveals it's nothing particularly controversial.
Please, keep pissing off the people. It can only end well... for us, not for you and the rest of your party. These people seem to forget that there's more of us than there are of them, and we have a lot more power than they give us credit for. You better start doing your jobs and start looking out for us like you're supposed to be.
I can't wait until the Republican party either dies or undergoes massive reform. I'm getting so fucking sick of this shit.
not going to happen half of the country is actually this delusional (not the politicians; they foster it for the money)
not going to happen half of the country is actually this delusional (not the politicians; they foster it for the money)
This is exactly why Trump's approval rating will likely not go beneath 47-45%.
Reminds me of how the conservatives were able to kill the very reasonable estate tax that would tax obscenely large inheritances to promote putting money back in the economy instead of hoarding all of it by calling it a "death tax".
This is exactly why Trump's approval rating will likely not go beneath 47-45%.
Trump: "Challenge accepted..."
As always, the reality of legislation is way more complicated and nuanced than politicians and opposition leaders want it to seem.
This has nothing to do with legislation being "more complicated and nuanced", this is politicians and pundits straight up telling a complete bold-faced lie, and gullible idiots believing it because anything that justifies their hatred of Obama must be true.
This is exactly why Trump's approval rating will likely not go beneath 47-45%.
Exactly. In a recent poll, it was revealed that the majority of Trump supporters believe that Trump should have the power to overturn the federal courts decisions. I'm convinced that they're not even supporters anymore, but cultists to whom their leader can do no wrong ever. And that scares the hell out of me. It's literal doublethink in action. These people say they want to keep money out of wall street, to give people true equal rights, to provide security and safety, but despite the actions of their leaders being directly contrary to those beliefs, they still support them no matter what.
this is politicians and pundits straight up telling a complete bold-faced lie, and gullible idiots believing it because anything that justifies their hatred of Obama must be true.
...so in other words we essentially agree?
I thought death panels were debunked ages ago and the Republican Party had moved on, evidently not.
...so in other words we essentially agree?
What I'm saying is that they aren't just making a misleadingly oversimplified or "spun" version of what the legislation actually is, which used to be more typical in politics, they're going a step further and straight up saying it's something completely and totally different that it has almost no resemblance to at all. It earned its spot as politifact's "lie of the year" well.
not going to happen half of the country is actually this delusional (not the politicians; they foster it for the money)
Half just tune into fox news every night and never look at anything else, they're the ones who live in a relatively homogeneous area that that aren't internet savvy enough to run into varying opinions on a day-to-day basis, and I s'pose I can forgive them for just not knowing any better, but then you get the younger ones, who seem to have taken a page from SRS and the internet far-left they hate so much, and holy fuck am I disappointed in them. After all, why debate policy, why discuss how incredibly fucked up the current administration is, or anything of real substance when you can just retreat into an echo chamber and sniff the collective farts of you and your fellow compatriots over the latest entry in the long-standing collection of "Stupid thing liberal somewhere did!" Goddamn I remember 'fempire' left-wingers running around decrying just how much of a 'conservative pisshole full of creepy shits' Reddit was, and I mean how couldn't it be when you've got hundreds of examples every day on your dashboard of someone being an idiot on a site used by millions of users, right?! Now the internet right gets their cry-on about how liberal Reddit is, I mean look at how much I get downvoted when I post in the default subs, obviously it can't be that people in general think I'm a fucking moron and my political opinions are dogshit stupid, it must be that they're LIBCUCKS! That's why I need my safespace where people get banned for actual debate, to protect me from all those meanies who'll come in there and talk about things I don't want to hear! I mean if I wanted to get on the same level I could just walk around my campus and find some idiot christian preaching hate and then post it every. Single. Day. But I don't, because y'know... I understand what actually matters in politics, lmao. Imagine that.
Let's make this guy right, sign the death panel into Trumpcare and run him through it as a test of it's effectiveness. He's old, he's wrong, he's not contributing anything to society. Think of the savings!
I decided to check out his twitter and Jesus Christ this is how he acts in his everyday life. I hope I never cross paths with this moron.

People like this deserve to have the crowds swarm them, politicians need to learn they should be representing and showing respect for their constituents' interests, not condescending them.
I really hope the gerrymandering and idiocy isn't enough to keep people like this in office in 2018 and 2020.
death panels used to exist before the ACA's pre existing conditions mandate. they were the insurance companies.
I really hope the gerrymandering and idiocy isn't enough to keep people like this in office in 2018 and 2020.
Pfahaha Dream on. Republicans have 2018 in the bag, Trump will win 2020 and I believe we'll have another republican in 2024.
Pfahaha Dream on. If they pick some retard like Kaine, or god forbid, Brianna Wu, then they're completely fucked and Trump will win another four years.
