things are happening at konami and my gut says it's not good.
Jeez, I wonder why.
It's almost like they know the American market wants nothing to do with them after MGS5.

And Silent Hills being canned completely.
I wonder who will pick up Kojima, or if Kojima will make his own studio. It'd be dope if he went to FROM SOFTWARE, I feel like he and Hidetaka Miyazaki would get along, but I'm not sure he'd be able to humble himself to the kind of budget FROM SOFTWARE would give him.

Maybe Platinum Games would be willing to work with him more? I mean MGR was a success.

Fuck that, he should go work with Platinum. Imagine the insane bullshit he could come up with working with them :v:

but then he'll just be making nothing but Dark Souls clones
I wonder what will happen to FOX engine since Kojima spent some of his own money to fund the development of it.

I hope they settle it with a samurai fight

Hmm, perhaps. Though I feel like with Platinum's reputation being primarily action, they wouldn't give him the free reign to make the kind of narrative driven stuff Kojima wants to make. That is to say, Platinum makes money from action titles, and there is more risk in making a narrative-driven title that they aren't sure will make a profit.
but then he'll just be making nothing but Dark Souls clones
Somehow I doubt it. Miyazaki and Kojima are kind of cut from the same cloth. Both of them were laughed at in their beginnings at FROM SOFTWARE and Konami respectively and have risen to be top mother fuckers in their fields. While their approaches to narrative are at opposite ends of the spectrum, they both value gameplay the same way I find in their interviews. I think Miyazaki would let Kojima take a risk on a game, but the problem is FROM SOFT wouldn't be able to give Kojima the kind of money he gets for the big games he makes.
I can't wait to see what happens when Kojima is free from the shackles of Metal Gear, as fantastic as they are.

I think Platinum would let Kojima do what he wants with Metal Gear, I mean after all, he trusted Kamiya with Metal Gear Rising. After something like that it would be a dick move for Kamiya to restrict Kojima in any way.

tbh he'd probably want to go into movies
[editline]27th April 2015[/editline]
dude spends most of his day watching movies, mgs4 was pretty much a movie in itself, and he was trying to work with a very renowned director on a video game, presumably to get cred in hollywood

That's a pretty good guess actually, I wouldn't mind seeing him switch from gaming to try something in cinema
I wonder what will happen to FOX engine since Kojima spent some of his own money to fund the development of it.
in a sane situation I'd say Kojima would own the engine and Konami would be given the rights to use it as much as they want (or vice versa)
however this is a world where Valve charges for mods and the entire staff of Ubisoft is incapable of animating women, so odds are good that a sane arrangement won't happen
I smell a possible bankruptcy.
I smell a possible bankruptcy.
nah. more than likely they've realized that they don't need a western branch of the company if they can just stay domestic and make shitloads from there
Konami is aiming to be a leader in the pachinko and slots industry inside Japan, it seems that's why they're closing game development studios under their umbrella.
Kojima should get hired by warner bros games since wb is the only dev/publisher with a really good game track record
Make snatcher 2 while he's at it

Well whether Pachinko or Bankrupt, it looks like Konami as we knew it as all over.
Konami put the gun on full auto and now it keeps firing at its feet.

I'm sure there's at least one guy in hollywood who doesn't have his head stuck up celebs' and big-name producer's asses and can appreciate the MGS games for their cinematic elements
Koji could definitely do some spy movies. But if he decided to have as much gratuitous exposition it'd either be a trilogy or everyone would fall asleep
so who owns the MGS IP, Konami or Kojima?
From someone else on this topic
this one was already explained, they only listed on nyse when it was harder to trade stocks internationally, now that its easier its redundant. basically

so who owns the MGS IP, Konami or Kojima?
Konami and they will run it into the ground.
Konami and they will run it into the ground.
They're already looking for a new dev team for future MGS titles so.
Konami is aiming to be a leader in the pachinko and slots industry inside Japan, it seems that's why they're closing game development studios under their umbrella.
Did they really have to close down one of their most lucrative properties in order to do that?
Konami is aiming to be a leader in the pachinko and slots industry inside Japan, it seems that's why they're closing game development studios under their umbrella.
They also run a chain of Gyms here, I don't go to pachinko but considering pachinko machines also have a videogame built in (it's a addiction tactic, the better you do and the longer you play, the further you advance in the game, even have a mario party one for slots), so they'd likely gut and repurpose their game sector rather than close the division outright.
Did they really have to close down one of their most lucrative properties in order to do that?
They have their fingers in a lot of pies, and their video game sector is hardly their most important or highest earning division. they've got pachinko, gyms, and arcade machines. cutting their console and PC division isn't going to hurt them much.
which explain's why they can drop the ball like this because they don't care and won't be hit to hard money wise although that made not be the case for them over in the USA.

I hope it fails them then
