Lazy Cakes! They're brownies, sold in dirty gas station snack aisles everywhere, that promise cellophane-wrapped chocolate relaxation. And by "relaxation," they mean fewer than two of these will make you pass out. I'll take three!
The Lazy behind the Cakes is good ol' melatonin. You remember melatonin, don't you? It's the stuff you used to take before long flights and after longer caffeine benders. This particular treat has 8mg of the (FDA unapproved, FDA unregulated) additive, which is just 2mg shy> of being able to make an adult human person abruptly fall asleep.
So how have they escaped FDA scrutiny? By slapping a "Not for food use" label on the wrapper and claiming instead to be a dietary supplement. Which is entirely possible if you're on a strict sleeping-and-chocolate diet. But it still may ultimately be a tough sell, given the drug's effects:
Of melatonin, Dr. Seres warned,
"If you take it while you're driving a car, you will find yourself in a ditch."
Which, all due respect to Dr. Seres, is really a little bit of an unfair characterization. You'll be in a ditch, sure. But you'll be there with some delicious numnum in your belly. [NYT, Boston Herald]
I wonder if 7-11 sells these.
Wait, are these the kind of brownies I think they are? Are they baked in a VW van with a hanging bead entrnace?
I need to order some of these.
They don't taste that good. You're honestly better off making weed brownies.
Also that tiny little brownie costs $5.
ITN is really living up to its new name.
Yeaaaaaah, one of those knocked out a friend of mine cold. I had to get his mother to help drive him back home afterward because I wasn't going to carry the heavy fucker.
Note:Not saying against it, just a funny little story.
It's basically a browny containing melatonin. Some people have adverse reactions to it while most people just experience drowsiness.
Would be useful if you have trouble sleeping.
You can sleep AND have a tasty snack!
Oh yeah, these are getting bought. Will I die if I eat 2 of them?

You would probably wake up next week :v:
I would like to puchase said cakes
I seriously doubt that anybody has even passed out unexpectedly from these brownies. That just sounds like a tall tale spread by suburban kids who can't get their hands on pot.
I'd rather drink some Drank.

Those adverse reactions?

People have adverse reactions to peanut butter.

I was saying couldn't passing out be one of those adverse reactions?
Oh shit these!?
I want these where are they
Kids, you need to be 18 to buy them, if you're 18, go to your local smoke shop. They're actually pretty good.

the tears are flowing
If they actually work, what the hell are they doing in convenience stores? Somebody will undoubtedly eat one while they're driving.
I used to take melatonin it only made me feel a bit drowsy but it seems like these things have more in them.
Never knew people used melatonin on plane rides...it does get boring up there.

:frog::frog::frog:
Get the fuck out, stupid fucking reporting.
Your average first-gen anti-histamine makes you far, far more sleepy than melatonin has ever done for me.
There seems to be a recurring theme to this and that's, what is the affect TO YOU.
Medications affect people different so for all we know people COULD be passing out. They'd need to do a study on this first.
Seems like a good prank to play on someone.
So I'm actually really curious to try these out. I'll probably buy one and never eat one again, but curiosity is getting the better of me. I'll see if they sell them in my local gas station.

Except that melatonin is produced in the body on an hourly basis.
If you're not a narcoleptic you should be fine.
