Twitter can be an interesting place to voice your opinions, and EA’s Bob Summerwill – a Senior Software Engineer and Architect – has sounded-off there with his thoughts about Nintendo’s struggling Wii U console. His comments, of course, follow EA's admission that it has no Wii U games in development. Update: We originally had hard links to Summerwill's Tweets here so you can read them in the context of the greater conversation. However, these Tweets have since been deleted, breaking the links. According to Summerwill’s LinkedIn page, he’s worked at Electronic Arts since January of 1999, and has previous experience at Psygnosis, which was later purchased by Sony, turned into Sony Liverpool, and subsequently shut down.
Source. Here are the tweets in question: Looks like someone lacks professionalism.
"Resignation" and PR apology incoming.
One more :~) [sp]this guy is an idiot[/sp]
to focus our resources on markets that actually matter... like mobile
Credibility lost.
Reminds me of that guy who worked for microsoft and went on a rant about how always online drm was fine and then a few weeks later decided to leave at his own accord, Wonder if he'll be leaving of his own accord soon too.
Credibility lost.
Mobile is an incredibly huge market.
I think people should be able to voice their opinions without losing their job. I find it silly that comments like these tend to have such backlash, you'd think people would realize that just one person's opinion doesn't necessarily mean the company he or she works for agrees with it.
Yeah well EA is crap. Guess which one I like more.
The tweets have since been removed, most likely for damage control. I also read somewhere that he's no longer listed as an EA employee, although that one is probably false. I don't think that would happen that fast.
I mean, the Wii U is kinda crap...
Credibility lost.
No matter how you or I might feel about the mobile market it pulls in money for companies so it is a focus for them
"Less powerful than an Xbox 360" Yeah calling bs on that one

Also, this doesn't help EA's current PR image of there relationship with Nintendo with all the rumors.
focus on mobile and Gen4
Gen 4? Isn't that the 16bit era?
I mean, the Wii U is kinda crap...
Do you have one? Personally, I love mine. Games on the PS and Xbox are exactly the same as playing them on PC, except with worse graphics. But the Wii U's Gamepad and WiiMotes add a fun new mechanic, so that playing them on PC just wouldn't be the same.

Well with the "no games for Wii U" comment and now this, at least they're finally showing their true colors about the whole failed Origin/NN deal. It reminds me of an evil mastermind: "That FOOL has BETRAYED ME!"
Gen 4? Isn't that the 16bit era?
Indeed it is. That moron must've thought game generations started when Sony stepped into the ring.
That last tweet is spot-on though. Nintendo and third party developers have never had a great relationship.
He is someone that is in a high position in EA. Also, this doesn't help EA's current PR image of there relationship with Nintendo with all the rumors.
But still this idea that every one ever has to suppress their opinions at all times is a bit ridiculous.
That last tweet is spot-on though. Nintendo and third party developers have never had a great relationship.
If the games are multiplatform yeah. Most of the third party stuff on the Wii was just shovelware.
If someone going to voice their opinion they can at least do it in a way that doesn't make them look like a complete asshole.
Am I the only one who doesn't give a fuck about the relationship between two companies suit's?
Credibility lost.
Not entirely. As dumb and menial as I find phone games right now, there is a fuckload of money to be made making phone games because there's a very large market for them.
The Wii U does indeed look like it may fall victim to limited third party support. The next xbox and PS4 are going to blow it out of the water, and they too will have other input mechanics than just a simple controller. To an extent the guy is right.
But still this idea that every one ever has to suppress their opinions at all times is a bit ridiculous.
When you are a Representative of your industry, you should respect the playing field. It is like if a movie studio insulted a movie theater chain by publicly announcing they should go out of business.
wait a few . he will delete the tweets if he hasn't already.
wait a few . he will delete the tweets if he hasn't already.
He already has.
"Less powerful than an Xbox 360" Yeah calling bs on that one

Speaking with NowGamer, 4A's Oles Shishkovtsov explains the reason pretty bluntly, saying "[The] Wii U has a horrible, slow CPU."

The GPU is supposedly better though.

Yet we know the console was able to play games like Crysis 3 with no issue.
