A retired Catholic bishop has been challenged before a NSW inquiry over his version of how and when he informed a school principal about a suspected pedophile priest. Bishop Michael Malone was being questioned at a special commission of inquiry in Newcastle into how the church and police handled allegations of child sexual abuse by Hunter Valley priests, James Fletcher and Denis McAlinden. In earlier evidence to the commission, Bishop Malone said he was told by police on June 20, 2002, that Fr Fletcher was under investigation for child sexual abuse. He said on that day he went to Saint Brigid's Catholic Primary School in Branxton and spoke to Fr Fletcher and the principal, Will Callinan. Bishop Malone said he told Mr Callinan that charges against Fr Fletcher were imminent and that his access to the school and students had to be restricted. But Mr Callinan's lawyer Mr Potter told Bishop Malone that Mr Callinan said he was not at Branxton that day, as he was undertaking duties at an infants school in Greta. "My memory is I met with Mr Callinan in the later part of the day and that it was definitely in Branxton," Bishop Malone said. Mr Potter suggested that Bishop Malone had actually spoken to Mr Callinan by phone on March 19, 2003, just before charges were laid against Fr Fletcher and when the NSW Ombudsman's office began investigating how allegations against Fr Fletcher had been handled. Bishop Malone disagreed.
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/07/15/15/56/bishop-challenged-at-nsw-abuse-inquiry

Basically, Australia is currently conducting an inquiry into sexual abuse by religious organizations, they are required to question retired bishops or anyone high up in the church about sexual abuse, a lot of organizations have been denying any form of sex abuse but a lot of victims and families have approached before the inquiry giving evidence
Okay shit I got it now. Guy A was told guy B was likely kiddie fiddler, said he told guy C but guy Potter disagree'd and then someone points out guy B obviously had power, even though he meant economically "owning" someone isn't power. Also why is it called "NSW Ombudsman's office"?
Because that's what it is. An ombudsman office.
repeat?
Possibly, they'll all walk free but probably without giving compensation and a written apology first
