EA pulls A Capcom: New Video Shows Mass Effect 3 Day-One DLC Already On Disc

Yesterday I talked about the problems with day-one DLC and the importance of building brand trust.
After listening to long-time fans of BioWare and their games – especially the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series – the inescapable sentiment is clear: fans, and particularly super-fans of these games, feel betrayed. BioWare may disagree, and may think that the gamers are ranting for no good reason. And I have no reason to believe that BioWare isn’t trying to make great games for their fans.
The problem is one of perception. Videos like this, which contradict so much of what BioWare and EA have been saying about the downloadable content, only serve to shatter that trust even more.
Here’s what gamers have been saying:
1. Since BioWare joined forces with EA, their games have gone from cerebral, complex, and unique to simplified games that sacrifice gameplay for story.
2. Worse, for games built around story, the mythology, at least in the Mass Effect franchise, has been changed in ways that make what was supposed to be a progressively unfolding plot incoherent. Many of the complaints I have heard are similar to those of Lost fans, disappointed with that show’s bizarre finale. As a Lost fan, I can certainly empathize.
3. The day-one DLC gives off the impression that BioWare and EA are more interested in squeezing cash out of their customers than in providing a quality game from the start.
(There are many other complaints, but this is the primary trifecta.)
The above video will only add fuel to the fire. With BioWare stating that the “From Ashes” was not developed alongside the rest of the game and not included on the disc, and a simple hack showing that this is not the case, it’s hard to see how the developer can possibly respond in a satisfying way.
As I’ve said previously, I want BioWare to succeed. I think many of its fans (and former fans) do as well. When your biggest fans start “ranting” about things like day-one DLC, the best thing to do is to listen and try to figure out why. That old adage “The customer is always right” applies here. Of course it’s not always true that the customer is always right, but it’s certainly important to take customer concerns into account rather than merely deflect them. It’s good for business.
The video that brought light to this:

In theory all you need is a cracked .exe to activate the new DLC and mission; it's that lazy.
As much as I hate Bioware for this DLC malarkey it is such a guilty pleasure because the game is so good
People are pirating our games
Quick, squeeze more money out of legitimate customers
Just read about it on Cinemablend. It's just not right to lie to your customers. I've played the demo and while the multiplayer was pretty fun, I was thinking about buying the game. But considering BioWares latest actions and now THIS I won't buy the game. This is not how you treat a (potential) customer.

They're trying to make it so bad noone will want to pirate it
Fucking lying in the face of customers.
Don't know why you called this "pulling a Capcom"
Ubisoft did first day DLC before Capcom, Namco/Bandai did this a loooong time ago with the release of the 360 and even EA with the Need for Speed games
Not protecting Capcom but it is kinda unfair pulling Capcom always in a bad light,
though others like Namco/Bandai do it all the time since YEARS (Ace Combat, Ridge Racer) and nobody seems to care.
EA's value proposition is "We'll give you what you ask for, but it won't be very high quality and you'll need to pay a lot for it."
The worst is they update a new patch and removing it entirely.
and a simple hack showing that this is not the case
yeah totally hacked Coalesced.ini with notepad by editing two lines
thank god i waited to buy ME3, saved myself £35.
By now people should've gotten used to day 1 dlc. DLC overall has been proven to work very well. Sell some game for $60, then sell DLC. Loadsemone

It's not about a Day One-DLC - it's about On-Disc-DLCs, content which is included on your disc of your copy of the actual game, but encrypted and therefore locked until you pay for it to get.

Except you should pay a standard price for a complete product, not a standard price for a half assed product that's missing content which you have to buy separately for extortionate prices.
Yeah, as I understand it "Pulling a Capcom" means the day one DLC is on the disc.
Edit:
This video talks about Capcom putting DLC on the disc.
the game is so good
ha
(my opinion), I don't understand why DLCs and expansions should cost, I mean we've already payed for the game :(
Except you should pay a standard price for a complete product, not a standard price for a half assed product that's missing content which you have to buy separately for extortionate prices.
Or should you? Do you think they care if you're still going to pay for the incomplete product?
(my opinion), I don't understand why DLCs and expansions should cost, I mean we've already payed for the game :(
Because normally they cost money to make. Do you think developers work for free?

Shit, man, this isn't even encrypted if it takes two lines to change it in Notepad. :v:
Technically if it's on the disk then you can go and unlock it without paying for it, you bought the disk so are entitled to anything on it in my opinion.

Also nothing Capcom did as the first ones ever in the industry.
As I mentioned before, Namco/Bandai did that with Beautiful Katamari on the 360, where you only bought 1kb files to unlock new Stages,
the last Mortal Kombat (which was released long before MvC3 or SXT) had fighters on the disc that you where supposed to unlock with real money.
http://www.gamefront.com/new-beautiful-katamari-dlc-is-a-ripoff/
http://www.qj.net/ps3/games/report-mortal-kombat-ps3-has-on-disc-dlc-chat-filter.html
And not many seemed to care back then. (and Katamari was 2007! And Namco didn't stop there, they continued this shit trough Ridge Racer and Ace Combat)
But now since Capcom did that with 2 Games (MvC3 and Street Fighter X Tekken) everyone devilizes Capcom and completely ignoring Namco/Bandai, Ubisoft, EA, Team Bondi, Microsoft, Codemasters and many others.
Which I really can't get in my head.
Sure, it was a HUUUUUGE dickmove and that doesn't make me preorder games from Capcom or buy them on the release date... but guys... cut them a fucking break already!

Like those Intel CPUs that required you to enter a code to unlock certain features.
Or should you? Do you think they care if you're still going to pay for the incomplete product?
We have trading standards for a reason.
The game itself? Fairly decent... The endings? DOHOHOHOHO I could find a child on the street and he'd have a better ending.
Like those Intel CPUs that required you to enter a code to unlock certain features.
What, they actually did something stupid like that?
But seriously, when I eventually buy this game I won't be paying for any dlc that comes on the disk.
Technically if it's on the disk then you can go and unlock it without paying for it, you bought the disk so are entitled to anything on it in my opinion.
EA has made it pretty clear that they still own the game, it's a privilege that can be taken away at any time.
Like the guy that got banned on the forums and was then unable to play The Old Republic, he asked why he couldn't and Stanley Woo (one of the main moderators for Bioware) said it was, "an incentive to behave yourself on the forums." Oddly enough, when the guy gave the story to internet news sites and they began to investigate it, EA immediately fixed the "issue" and blamed it on "an unforeseen glitch."
Is the mission that comes with the DLC in the game already tho? I quite enjoyed the mission.
We have trading standards for a reason.
We do?

Well that's your opinion, but what matters is what the courts think. Stuff like this is totally new ground, so who knows if a judge would find unlocking this to be stealing or not.
