I only know that the odd reference to zombies and pickaxes burgeoned until it was an omnipresent force in our household, the dominant topic of conversation and, most bafflingly, a game he found so gripping that he didn't just want to play it, he wanted to watch YouTube videos of others playing it too.
I'm actually almost surprised and disappointed that there are really people this obsessed with Minecraft. Kid has a great opinion on it, though.
"I'm not sure there is one. But that's what's brilliant. You can do anything you like."

I'm actually almost surprised and disappointed that there are really people this obsessed with Minecraft. Kid has a great opinion on it, though.
In a sandbox game like Minecraft, half of the fun is seeing others creations and showing your own. It's not that obsessive.
It's the same reason Rust and DayZ are popular, the same reason RPGs were the hot shit in the 90s, the idea that if you can imagine it you can do it. It used to be saving the world, now it's building a world. People say they can't believe kids love to watch people play Minecraft, but when I was that age I was reading about people playing RPGs. It's just a modern iteration of the same thing we all had when we were kids.
I play minecraft and I don't care what anyone thinks about it.
I skimmed the article and it sounds a lot like an adult suddenly realizing videogame nerds are a thing.
I'm actually almost surprised and disappointed that there are really people this obsessed with Minecraft. Kid has a great opinion on it, though.
Including the bit of letsplays? I find it pretty normal for people to want to see what creative ideas, projects or solutions others have come up with using "the same box of legos", especially when these legos let you build everything from a small block cage "house" to working calculators. That bit looked really odd next to the rest of the quote to me.
If you delve into mods it's also a great learning tool, you can learn how to code on computers in Minecraft, potentially moving on to coding your own mods. The game doesn't just exist in it's Vanilla form..
It's basically a good lego game. Of course kids are gonna be all over it. Hell, I still play it.

I wonder what kid isn't into Minecraft at this point
It's basically a good lego game. Of course kids are gonna be all over it. Hell, I still play it.
And much like LEGO, it can be an excellent outlet for kids (hell, even adults) who love to tinker and create. Especially when mods are involved, there's a ton of critical thinking and problem-solving you can exercise in this game, and that's why I love it: Gives me a means of tinkering when I can't afford to do so IRL.
My 11 year old brother is just the same, ever since he saw me playing it he has pretty much made my parents buy it for him on PS3, PC and Android, all he does is play Minecraft and watch videos of it in his spare time at home :v:
i play it on my phone.
I couldn't pinpoint exactly when I became aware of my eight-year-old son's fixation with Minecraft. I only know that the odd reference to zombies and pickaxes burgeoned until it was an omnipresent force in our household, the dominant topic of conversation and, most bafflingly, a game he found so gripping that he didn't just want to play it, he wanted to watch YouTube videos of others playing it too.
That's just eight year olds, for you. My cousin is the same way about football. I don't give a flyin' squirrel about football, but 24/7, he's going on and on and on about it. "Who are your favorite teams? What are your top five favorite players? I like the Chargers. Do you like the Chargers? Who would win: the Chargers or the Colts? What's your favorite Chargers player? I like Antonio Gates the most. He's the best player ever. Do you think so too? If you liked football, who would you want to play for? I'd want to play for the Chargers." Jeez!

After all the worlds I saved from destruction, I can finally build my own for the future generation to save.
Given the tight controls on our internet settings, and the fact that Otis only ever plays in single-player mode – so he can't play against or meet strangers online – it strikes me that there are far worse things that could preoccupy him.
Better watch out for all those nasty internet badmen. Spooky 'n' scary 'n' they'll nick yer kids.
Better watch out for all those nasty internet badmen. In fact maybe this was Notch's plan from the start, I wonder who is funding him secretly.. (lol)
Not a bad thing. I mean, this is like legos, just digital and it lets you challange your imagination without having to search or buy a missing piece.
Minecraft is the most overrated piece of shit game to ever plague this earth. This retard is tainting and ruining her sons social skills with this game and setting a fast track towards him becoming a jaded social outcast. (User was banned for this post ("Baiting" - SteveUK))
my son's a lil retard nerd that likes to play a shitty game pls write an article about it (User was banned for this post ("Shitposting" - SteveUK))
I would have probably done the same if I had Minecraft at that age.

It's that MineCraft is a horribly scripted abomination that shows that effort isn't needed to create a best selling video game. Every person that I've met that plays MineCraft is some obnoxious smartass Adderall-Infested kid who wont shut up.

Every person that I've met that plays MineCraft is some obnoxious smartass Adderall-Infested kid who wont shut up.
I agree that Minecraft is overrated and it's not all that amazing, but frankly everyone has their own tastes and opinions, some might prefer coffee over tea for example, some might hate the tea even. But the important thing is, you don't make a cunt out of yourself with your tastes or opinions.
Sometimes "making a cunt out of yourself" is the only way to get your opinion heard.
Sometimes "making a cunt out of yourself" is the only way to get your opinion heard.
First of all, why should your opinion hold so much weight that it requires you to act like an asshat to make sure it's heard, and second at least back up such an opinion with some evidence as to why we should even listen to you. What I hear is "this dude took a simple concept and made millions and because of that my ass is seriously hurt"
Sometimes "making a cunt out of yourself" is the only way to get your opinion heard.
It really, really depends on the time, place, context, execution and so on. The internet is one of the worst places to do that.
Sometimes "making a cunt out of yourself" is the only way to get your opinion heard.
nah, youre just generalising because waah i dont like minecraft so everyone else shouldnt like it too
Can you people seriously calm down? Just because I don't like the game and state reasons doesn't mean you people need to get butt-hurt and freak out over a couple of posts. You guys are just proving my point further that MineCraft fans are overly defensive about it.
