Suddenly, the Right to Die issue comes to a front in a very unexpected way.

The Mandela family have to make this decision while fighting legal battles over his burial place and properties. Hopefully they make the right choice.

The chances of recovery from PVS at his age are very slim and even if he does pull through he will likely suffer from the damage that was caused to the brain by being in that state. He won't be able to take care of himself and will have to be kept on life support for the rest of his life. In my opinion, if I were in his position I would have wanted to be kept alive as much as possible, But at the moment I would lose my ability to think and process information, (which is probably what is going to happen to him if he "awakes" from PVS) I would tell them to pull the plug. Any of this is meaningless because he can't make the decision himself as all the attempts to try and communicate with patients in PVS were proven unsuccessful (they did the experiment by comparing the brain scans with answers like Yes and No) and they didn't find any evidence that suggest that patients respond to that. I don't think the family can do anything for him at this point, so they might as well start thinking about themselves and how they will feel about the decision that they're about to make.
