April 8th we are hoping to have our “opt-in” version of COH1 available on Steam. Using your key for the original game, you’ll be able to download this full version, make a new account and start playing.
We’ll provide a specific list of supported online features shortly.
On May 7th the Quazal servers will shut down.
We’re investigating the possibility of creating an online archive of all the final data from the leaderboards, statistics, etc, to honor the gamers who have played so much for the last 6 years.
We will also make a tool allowing players who can no longer access Quazal to find out their key for COH1 using their login & pwd information for COH1.
The feature roadmap for COH2 will also include details on what kind of a feature release schedule we’re hoping to achieve with COH1.
Finally Steamworks.
Because I'm a dick, can anyone briefly explain the benefits of this? Is it just the servers or...?
What if someone got it from the THQ Humble Bundle?

You'd still have a key which you can view on steam, I believe.
Well, I guess it'll prevent the game's multiplayer from dying any time soon.

If the one you currently have doesn't work, Humble Bundle will add a new key to your list.
That's pretty cool, it's better than being like haha sorry anyone who bought it on disk but you're fucked.
So if you have it on Steam already then it'll be automatic or what?

I do believe it's so we can actually play online again.
CoH did use Gamespy, so when that went offline, so did CoH.
Unless something changed that I wasn't aware of.

Nope, Gamespy servers for CoH never went offline in the first place; there were some pretty annoying issues logging in for the past couple of weeks though.
Nice. Reminds me of when GPG did the same thing for Supreme Commander and it's expansion; now got them on Steam from that method, in fact.

There's also a community made server and lobby program called Forged Alliance Forever which I recommend to anyone who wants to play the game online. It has matchmaking and everything.
Company of Heroes is a brilliant title and is probably one of the best games for Steamworks in it's early period.
As far as I know, Company of Heroes multiplayer still works.
At least the mods I play still do.
Yes, now I can finally play without those fucking NAT errors!
Does that mean I can add my old retail key to steam?
I'm glad.
Company of Heroes is one of the best RTS games out there. Mostly if you play it with Europe at War or Blitzkrieg.

CoH with Blitzkrieg provides the ultimate WW2 turtling experience.
No workshop? :<
