[release]Shots apparently were fired near the White House on Friday night, possibly in a confrontation between occupants of two vehicles on Constitution Avenue, according to the accounts of federal law enforcement officials. After a broadcast alarm was issued about the incident, a vehicle was found abandoned in the District, near the Roosevelt Bridge a few blocks away, and a weapon believed to be an assault rifle, possibly an AK-47, was found inside, according to a Secret Service spokesman. It also appeared that spent cartridges were found on Constitution, south of the White House, officials said. The incident created a flurry of law enforcement activity, but a U.S. Park Police spokesman cast doubt on the possibility that the White House was a target. “The reason why this is of interest is because of the location,” said Sgt. David Schlosser, the spokesman. Shots fired for any reason are extremely rare in the area of the White House. According to the Secret Service, members of the service’s uniformed division heard shots fired a few minutes after 9 p.m. on Constitution Avenue between 15th and 17th streets. At the same time, the officers saw two vehicles heading west on the avenue, and issued a radio alert. Shortly afterward, an abandoned vehicle was found on a grassy area near the approach to the bridge. A witness told police that someone ran from the vehicle toward the bridge. As of late Friday no injuries had been reported, and there was no indication that anybody had been taken into custody. Part of Constitution was closed for a time. President Obama and the first lady were not in the White House on Friday night, authorities said.[/release] Source: Washington Post
possibly an AK-47
absurdly unlikely, quality journalist

Because it being an ak-47 somehow makes it more dangerous.
Because it being an ak-47 somehow makes it more dangerous.
Because TERRORISTS DONT YOU GET IT
Because it being an ak-47 somehow makes it more dangerous.
It being an AK47 suggests it wasn't obtained legally.
It being an AK47 suggests it wasn't obtained legally.
Are AK47's illegal in the US? :pwn:
I wouldn't be surprised
The motive probably wasn't to hurt anyone. It's unlikely that the aggressor would have missed if he were shooting to kill in such a risky place to be firing. Not to mention that he would have been at the leisure of however oblivious his target was.
I love how you guys are all "omg its a journalist obviously he just said ak47 because he doesn't know any other guns LOL", when it clearly states here;
a weapon believed to be an assault rifle, possibly an AK-47, was found inside, according to a Secret Service spokesman.
In this case the journalist is referring to what someone else has said. If he was reporting from a warzone then sure, they'd probably just label everything as an AK47, but in this case, do you honestly think they'd seen the gun? Do you honestly think they were around when the crime scene was secured and the weapon identified? They're directly quoting someone who was at the scene, so saying "hurr durr journalists are dumb because they only know ak47s lol" is just stupid.
Are AK47's illegal in the US? :pwn:
yes. most automatic weapons are.
Are AK47's illegal in the US? :pwn:
I think the deal is that people think AK-47's are always automatic, and automatic weapons are illegal I believe, so...following their education on ak-47's, they are indeed illegal.
It being an AK47 suggests it wasn't obtained legally.
how are you enjoying your first week in america? you still have a lot to learn, but that's ok. we can wait.
dingus, i know for a fact that the ak-47 banned in America, or at least california, thats why all the gangstas use a single fire look alike.
No, they use actual single fire ak-47's.
In the end they realise that someone blew a paperbag full of air up.
Semi-automatic AK-type rifles are legal and obtainable in most states of the United States, however they may or may not be legal to own or possess depending on state, county, city, and local laws and ordinances. Persons interested in owning one of these types of rifles are strongly encouraged to research the laws where they reside or plan to keep and use the weapon. The 1989 Semi-Automatic Rifle Import Ban (18 USC 925(d)(3)) and the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban specifically banned the AK-47 by name, and many other such weapons (including obvious clones of AK-47's) manufactured after 1994 had to be modified to the letter of the law (removal of barrel threading, bayonet lug and folding stock). This ban expired on September 13, 2004, as part of the law's sunset provision, making all domestically produced semi-automatic AK-47s legal. The import of AK pattern rifles with certain features (i.e. WASR rifles legally are imported with the low capacity single stack magazine) is still banned. However, certain states such as California, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts have specific restrictions which effectively ban new purchases of many semi-automatic rifles, with some mentioning AK-pattern firearms by name.
AK is legal.
Are AK47's illegal in the US? :pwn:
They're illegal in some states but not nationwide. Most of the weapons that actually are banned in every state are so expensive that it's unlikely anyone who isn't a James Bond villain would be able to acquire and/or use them.
You guys get to have Flamethrowers. Lucky.
You guys get to have Flamethrowers. Lucky.
It's not like you can easily make one yourself or anything.
It's not like you can easily make one yourself or anything.
It's not hard. Connecting a few blowtorches and a small CO2 canister in some piping.
Gunshots? IN WASHINGTON DC!? Unheard of!
It's not hard. Connecting a few blowtorches and a small CO2 canister in some piping.
It seems you have a sarcasm deficiency.
Damn thread titles! I thought there was some conspiracy shit going down or somthing.
No, they use actual single fire ak-47's.
I was under the assumption they didn't use AK-47s, but a variety of AK clones from former soviet states and china?
dingus, i know for a fact that the ak-47 banned in America, or at least california, thats why all the gangstas use a single fire look alike.
lol
absurdly unlikely, quality journalist
Washington D.C. has one of the highest crime rates in the country, ironically. Gang presence is at an all-time high thanks to role models like 50 Cent etc. AK-47s are legal in the U.S. I actually own 7 of them, all you have to do in order to buy them legally you just have to have them worked on before hand (or they're already modded) so that they are single-shot and not automatic. But you can go right back and place the pin back in to make it automatic again in any fucking workshop if you pay them under the table. It's not difficult, you can find them around for like 100 dollars
The identity of the gun DOES matter. If it's a legitimate select fire Kalashnikov, there might have been some serious shit involved. If it's a WASR-10 it's just every day Washington DC.
