WB will re-release Wizard of Oz in theaters this September, albeit only on IMAX 3D screens around the U.S. The limited theatrical run is meant to build-up momentum for a subsequent home video release of a 5-disc anniversary edition, which is going to include Fleming’s motion picture in DVD, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and UltraViolet versions (in addition to bonus features, like a new documentary about the making of the movie).
Honestly one of the most retarded re-releases ideas ever
If the 3D was optional, I would use it as an excuse to see the Wizard of Oz on the big screen. But it's only in the US...
At least its not The Beast Of Yucca Flats or any of Michael Bay's back catalogue or his future catalogue.
Now milk it, my pretties! Milk it! Milk it for all it's worth! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Its going to look like shit.
It would be neat if they just did it for background depth and only when Dorothy is in Oz.
But Oz has nothing to gain from 3D. The movie was almost entirely built around great uses of color, and the areas were obviously rather small sets most of the time. How are you going to add depth of field effects to painted backdrops?

This my inner child could start squealing for.
how is this retarded? It's a classic, and a Bluray version would be cool if done properly.

2D to 3D conversions.
Basically universally shit decisions.
Ontop of that the set designs are obviously small even in 2D from the original film scans. A 3D conversion would mean A) they would show the depth of the set and how it's like 20 feet deep in the scarecrow scene, or B) add fake depth to make the matte painting which is 20 feet away seem like 2000feet away.
It's already noticeable in 2D.

Blu Ray is perfectly fine. A re-release is fine. A 3D IMAX re-release is extremely retarded.
Oh boy.
I wonder how many people are going to see this just to see if they can see the supposed "Suicide Munchkin".
But yeah I agree, there is no way they can make this movie 3D and have it look good, it's too old.

unless they edit all the backgrounds to look more real
♫ Werrrrre off to see the gimmick.
The wonderful gimmick that was. ♫
It's an obvious cash in but hey... I dunno so were JP 3d and Titanic 3d...
Fuck the naysayers. This is worth it just for syncing up Dark Side Of The Moon on an MP3 player while high.
Remember, you push play when the lion in the MGM logo roars for the second time.
I feel an interest in watching this, partially due to nostalgia but mostly to see what will become of it.
