I like to go urban exploring. A lot.
So, on the 1st of October I will be setting foot in the Chernobyl exclusion zone (for three days) with a group of another twenty or so people. This brings a few thoughts to mind.
1. I've never been on an aeroplane before and I don't think Ukrainian airlines is the best place to start. I'm nervo- scared shitless.
2. The radiation level is now not all that high, but it's still a lot higher than normal, so although I'm not very worried about it, I do care for my health.
3. Is there anything which I should do when I'm there which you guys would like to see? Of course I will post a full report up here.
4. Going into the NPP is out of the question unfortunately. The radiation levels are far too high and they only usually let scientists in there.
5. I will have free roam of Pripyat and will also be spending a night or two in Kiev at the end of the trip.
6. Anyone who wants free caesium rods, send me a stamp addressed envelope and I will happily pick some up for you and send them by post (UK only)*
So yeah, I'm looking forward to it, but at the same time I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing. Anyone got any handy advice?
*not really

How the fuck do you be in Chernobyl for three days
Pretty sure there's no Chernobyl sleep away camp
We're staying in a nearby town called Slavutych and travelling in to the zone (semykhody station) by train every day.
Ohhh ok. Well get me a radioactive sign
3 days? Son you got balls
well, if you stay there for 3 days i doubt you'll ever be able to have kids lol
get a camera and record everythimg. then edit it documentary style. bring guns to hunt mutant pigs as well

Rads have gone down over the years. Mostly only the plant life and animals are radiated.
I'd probably go to a doctor and tell him what you're doing, then when you get back have another check up with him to make sure you're okay if you're worrying about your health

because distinguishing humans from animals that makes us immune to all the roentgens going down my throat
because distinguishing humans from animals that makes us immune to all the roentgens going down my throat
we're bigger and bigger = harder to die from radiation
it's kind of nice now that STALKER is dead and gone otherwise this thread would be filled with sperglords posting references to it.

Well you're right, but we're not immune from the possible complications, we are not gods, Bentley has to be careful exploring he might go to some closed down building and go into some radiation pocket or some shit, you never know
because distinguishing humans from animals that makes us immune to all the roentgens going down my throat
I have no fucking clue what you are saying. The animals obviously go into the radiated areas and eat radiated food.

Radiation is more prominent in plants because they are alive. Concrete isn't. I remember watching a documentary where the guys actually entered the nuclear power plant (a recent documentary at that)
you should totally have a kid and see if he becomes a super hero after the trip. maybe he'll fly right out of the womb just in time to save manhattan.

or maybe he'll die 3 weeks after being born. it all depends but i guess it's far more likely that he becomes a super hero.

This might just happen ;)

okay fine, lets all waltz into the sarcophagus in reactor 4, have a wank and see if our spunk starts glowing neon green.
I'm not saying you will die, i'm saying there can be complications, even if minor. because it's fucking stupid to say there is no danger

I didn't say you can walk into the bloody reactor. The reactor isn't the whole fucking plant in case you didn't realize. Just read this

If it wasn't safe then obviously there wouldn't be tours there
What are these caesium rods you speak of/how much would the postage cost?
Bring me back an artifact, stalker.
it's kind of nice now that STALKER is dead and gone otherwise this thread would be filled with sperglords posting references to it.
STALKERs definitely not dead, the series may be (or not they're very finicky) but the community still jacks off to it
Also I think Chernobyl and STALKER will always be mentioned with one another

wow.
and i thought i was dumb.
REMEMBER TO BURN YOUR SHOES.
They build up fuck tons of radiation from the floor/snow.
What, I'm serious, I have no clue what he means by caesium rod and google didn't help.
-Snip, better explanation below-
I think he meant Cesium, you know, as in fuel rods.
As in the kind that's not entirely safe to possess
Take lots of pictures and notes.
I, and probably many others want to know what happens. I hope to go there myself one day.

Oh. I thought they'd be some inert thing related to radioactivity or the accident, it'd be nice to have a souvenir from Chernobyl. And I thought the asterisk applied to "UK only", meaning he'd do int'l shipping but was looking to send most to the UK because it'd be cheaper or whatever.
