• Why you should get off 4chan (and stop wasting time on the internet in general)

Yes ladies and gentlemen, the enigmatic JT Sexkik (of What is Waifuism fame) is back! While this is specifically about 4chan, a lot of what he says applies a lot to other internet-time-wasting things too.
Alot of what he says may differ alot from person to person. But i guess he's talking about those who aint doing anything else with their time than sitting on the computer, wasting their time all day, everyday.
All these pseudo-motivational preaching videos follow the same exact tripe and there is no logical reason to adhere to any of them. They are targeting a non-existent demographic.
i don't know if 4chan's getting shittier or i'm just getting older. probably a combination of the both obligatory "it's always been shit"
Why did you post this? Who is this person? Why should I care if some person left 4chan? Also why would I care if he didn't find his waifu loli porn at 4chan? Also lol epik random imgs xd. 17 minutes not so well spent.
i don't know if 4chan's getting shittier or i'm just getting older. probably a combination of the both obligatory "it's always been shit"
It's always been shit, but it's been shittier ever since they started leaking out into popular culture.
So you managed to stop visiting a webpage? Truly an amazing feat.

I can see his point. I like to lurk on /v/ sometimes in search of funny reaction pictures, but I can't bring myself to look at it for more than a few minutes without feeling depressed. So many people shitflinging and being snobby about their choice of games.
I'm waiting for the OP to get rained with dumbs from people who will argue that FP is "nothing like 4chan" even though FP is essentially 4chan lite. we even have an automotive subforum
it has a point though. also slightly confusing that the youtube comments are actual discussion instead of just screaming around and pointless shit for once

I go on 4chan for 15 min a day and thats it, i dont spend hours browsing it.
I guess being Tommy Tetanus isn't all that bad
The reason I use 4chan is because for some miracle reason; it always works, including when ever my computer is busy compiling shit that uses up my whole processor. I think because it's so optimized / minimalist it can accomplish this, but for some reason when my router fucks up, no other site but 4chan shows up, not even google. I think /mu/ is a really good tool to find new music for me with all their 3x3 and list threads. Regarding the anonymity, I really don't give a fuck what you're quirky name is, you're post count, gold member status, or you're silly animated avatar; all I care about is what you have to say. I really wish more sites would do the anonymity thing but as of right now I'm stuck with 4chan. Edit: What I'm getting at is that there is no one function of the site, just because the guy in the video got addicted to all the weeb boards /a/ /jp/ /D/ doesn't mean the rest of the site is fnucked or lacks purpose.
His other videos are pretty funny but this was just pointless. How the mighty have fallen.
I like his voice :3

Having an account, well, makes you accountable.
With anonymity comes piles of shit posts though. Having an account, well, makes you accountable.
I believe anonymity also makes people a lot more honest about their opinions. When you get past the people telling you to kill yourself, anonymous people can contribute a lot more genuine, honest criticism than named people because they're not accountable.
Addictions are a powerful thing.
good god i feel bad for the person that is addicted to 4chan
good god i feel bad for the person that is addicted to 4chan
It's not really an addiction. It's no different than feeling the incessant desire to F5 your previously read threads list to see if new posts have been made. It's just something to do. It's a time waster. Even people who are "addicted" to 4chan are well aware they're just wasting time, yet they can't peel themselves away from it. For me, I can go weeks without looking at any board on 4chan, but one day I'll think to myself "I wonder what kind of stupid shitflinging /v/ is up to" and take a stroll through the first few pages. Occasionally I can find a legitimately good discussion, but for the most part I'm wading through shit threads about pokegirls, waifus, and husbandos. At that point I just quit lurking, and don't return for another few weeks. Boards like /v/ are basically one big circlejerk with razor blades and iodized salt. It's not healthy to look at. Within minutes of exposure, I always end up feeling a knot of pure boredom for everything grow inside of me. It's exactly like all of those camgirl models who never go nude. People still pay for them and support them in the hopes that one day they'll expose a titty, and it never happens. 4chan operates on the same function. People like me continue to visit it because we know that underneath the piles of shit lays one or two good threads worth a read. The sad reality is, most of the time they don't exist. Just like those camgirls who never expose their bare titties.
i was joking but sure as if i can talk with almost 19,000 posts on facepunch [editline]17th May 2014[/editline] sometimes i browse /p/, but it seems to be a circlejerk surrounding tripcode users
Interesting video to say the least,I've fallen out from visiting 4chan due to just being too busy to keep up with the multi-lodes of crap. I,like the guy just use tumblr now since it's pretty useful for getting a direct feed of what you're interested but I do miss the spontaneous birth of jokes and other hilarious moments that comes as fast as they go on 4chan. I wish he would stop these analysis of people thing that he's been doing as of late and just continued making dumb commentaries,I miss those
Never gonna stop me from going on /wg/
I believe anonymity also makes people a lot more honest about their opinions. When you get past the people telling you to kill yourself, anonymous people can contribute a lot more genuine, honest criticism than named people because they're not accountable.
Yeah, I remember there was a thread on /b/ once that I read and it was telling people to post anything they want and people would answer as honestly as they could. It was like FP confessions except with direct answers, about 80% of it was real talk. I even got a few things off my chest. Of course take everything with a grain of salt but it's easy to just ignore all the shitposting on 4chan and just subscribe and look for the topics you want. I don't even bother to look at console argument thread #312831 on /v/ anymore.
There is some good advice here, because it's not about the site itself or everyone who uses it, it's about people who get addicted and are really changed for the worse by the culture there. It's not without merits, having a critical eye to everything and a good bullshit detector is invaluable, as is being able to filter out the crap and thick skin to take random abuse in stride. But long term exposure just makes you more and more cynical, and for all that's worth too much is still a bad thing. It soaks up all your time and you end up doing less of what you want since you don't try to control it, which in turn makes you more bitter. I think I'm at the point where I can see some of what it is doing and am aware, but still have plenty influencing me. I've probably learned enough from there and I might lay off for a while, it's been six years after all.

8 years and counting, every day. I can't even bring myself to look at it anymore. It's so horribly shit. I stopped visiting it for a month and when I came back every thread was the exact same as when I left it.
