TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie wants the leader of New Jersey's National Guard to shape up. The governor has given Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Cunniff 90 days to slim down and meet his obligations. The action comes after Christie's staff told The Washington Post that the governor was unaware the general had been reprimanded by the Pentagon about his weight and for repeatedly dodging physical-fitness tests. The newspaper obtained the records under the Freedom of Information Act. Christie declined a request for an interview.
http://www.fox5ny.com/local-news/23113441-story :badzing:
I wish Chris Christie would stop throwing his weight around at people, he isn't making any friends by acting this way.
The general in question: [t]https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7422/13563936804_3a5300aa73_b.jpg[/t] He even looks bigger than Christie in this photo
You're really enjoying the alliteration lately Scorpio :P

NJ has less rates of obesity than surrounding states like PA, ironically.
Christie's weight is entirely irrelevant. The position of governor does not have any physical fitness requirements to my knowledge. On the other hand, a brigadier general in the Air National Guard is required to meet Air Force fitness standards, something that the general has apparently skirted for 3 years. Here's the FOIA of the IG report that led to this https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/2428332/read-the-april-2014-investigative-report-on-brig.pdf
OK that's not an unfair request for a general who has to meet military fitness requirements
that looks like such an American general man what the hell
that was splendidly alliterated, OP
I feel like once you attain general status fitness requirements don't matter. Like really show me a super fit general from history anyway, most of them are old men by the time they are generals.
Also, I learned something interesting the other day. NJ has less rates of obesity than surrounding states like PA, ironically.
Well clearly there's less food to go around in Jersey, what with Christie around.

Not exactly hypocritical, Christie can continue to be the fat fuck that he is.
I feel like once you attain general status fitness requirements don't matter. Also isn't the national guard a non-professional army?
http://www.fox5ny.com/local-news/23113441-story :badzing:
It's a pity "guard" and "general" start with different consonants, or that would have been a perfect title.
So a guy that has taken over the top measures of getting a lap-band installed to lose weight is telling a guy that took on a strict military role to lose weight. Not sure what to think of this one besides nodding my head and saying "Okay". Not even sure if this is news.
That's what I was thinking, I can understand field-grade officers needing to be fit but company-grade? Also isn't the national guard a non-professional army?
The National Guard is still a part of the military. Specifically, the National Guard itself is a part of the Army, but held to different standards as per state and branch (while also maintaining the Army standard).
It's a pity "guard" and "general" start with different consonants, or that would have been a perfect title.
Yeah but I really couldn't find any substitute
The issue here is that this guy is a major General and isn't taking this test that is mandatory. A lot of people are pretty offended by it because he seems to think because he's a General, he's above the rest [editline]23rd September 2015[/editline] Really this has nothing to do with Christie being fat. Christie isn't in the military. Apples and oranges
It's a big deal in the sense that military officers have much more strict regulations as far as fitness tests go. I could be wrong, since I'm a measly enlisted man, but a single physical test failure means an officer cannot renew their contract. Basically, once their next few years are up they're out for the good, whereas enlisted have to fail it 2-3 times in a 4 year period (or something like that, I forget) in order to be separated. Basically, the guy wouldn't still be in the military right now if he was held to the same standards as every other officer in the military. But he gets to be a general because he knows how to work the system. There's definitely something wrong there. Our Captain here at subbase is in his 50's and runs his 1.5 mile in sub-8 minutes. He's a fucking beast, runs marathons and even has a fitness business. Being in a position of authority is no excuse to let yourself go in the military.
A politician being fat isn't the same as a military man being fat. Like, one guy is expected to be well disciplined....
If it came down to Chris Christie vs. Whoever the Democratic candidate is, I'd have a hard time choosing.
