Spoiler alert: [sp]she basically says that there is not enough fat girls in video games somehow[/sp]
right so why are we posting her videos here again?? I thought the general consensus was to not give her any attention whatsoever
Doesn't the existence of games like Overwatch kind of disprove that, though? I mean, we could definitely go further with it because I love seeing diverse character designs instead of barbie and ken dolls, but we've been seeing improvements.
Man, Jonathan McIntosh needs to step up his game and produce these videos faster, they don't seem to take that much effort. Maybe that actress he uses as the host is just difficult to work with?
I mean, the majority of games we play require characters that are in phenomenally good shape, so it doesn't seem all that odd that most characters are physically ideal. It's certainly not a woman thing either; most male protagonists I can think of are in unbelievably good shape as well.
She does realise that most of the fat male characters are there as jokes doesn't she? They're meant to be comedic and not much else. Standard male characters are all mostly big muscular guys with little variation.
This video was better than her other ones. Her video series has taken so long that we're starting to see better female representation before she's even finished it.
Is there a list somewhere of notable fat male and female characters? I can't seem to recall many of either gender.

i cant wait to pick skeletal priest in my next game of dota 2
I don't see the problem of not having a ton of fat people in video games. I mean don't get me wrong, I don't hate fat people, and I don't hate there being fat people in video games. It's just, it's not such a good thing to be promoting, Fat is unhealthy, it's deadly, it is not something you should parade around because it is killing you and other fat people. It's like if I went around parading a gunshot wound and not getting it healed. I don't really want kids thinking it's okay to be fat. I mean I want them to feel accepted for being fat, not being treated differently, but I want them to understand that it's not healthy for them, and it's something they have to change full stop. I do understand that there are actual people who can't do much about their weight (medical problems not genetics cause that is bull), but they at least know it's not good.
comments and ratings disabled nice cunt
don't worry folks we'll get fat physics into games to have believable fat people soon
comments and ratings disabled nice cunt
You're the reason she does it in the first place.
Is there a list somewhere of notable fat male and female characters? I can't seem to recall many of either gender.
well the main protag of the first 3 uncharted games had a fat mode if that counts
Is there a list somewhere of notable fat male and female characters? I can't seem to recall many of either gender.
There's not a whole lot of fat characters in general, and most of those are confined to fighting games where their fatness (aka morbid obesity) is a gameplay gimmick. Aside from fighting games and off the top of my head, there's Sidorovich (kinda fat, greedy) in STALKER and Otis (paul blart mall cop) in HL: Blue Shift. Fat characters need additional modeling as they can't use mix-and-match pieces, and they potentially need reworked animations depending on their weight for realistic movement, so they are rare due to time-cost considerations.
You're the reason she does it in the first place.
more like so people can't point out her hypocrisy and cherry picking
Doesn't Street Fighter and Tekken have fighters who are fat? I recall Bob being pretty big-boned. [T]https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTC0qTPeiaAV8c1ZaEiehaK_D4xeBjpYyd8QpfJyFYIRHrVaocs[/T] If we were to have a protag or a major character that is fat, there would be more time whether or not to include jiggle physics or done all by hand. Not to mention that to implement it into gameplay would either delve into comedy, or just make a slightly overweight cop in a action game.
you're kidding me the first 13 seconds of the video have the word "straight" in it what about gay or maybe bixseual you're fucking kidding me man. [editline]3rd September 2016[/editline] im done

I think we need more fat characters in games, not because fat people need representation or whatever but just because body diversity is more realistic and interesting than having everyone be lean or muscular.
decent video actually
more like so people can't point out her hypocrisy and cherry picking
People usually don't usually call someone a cunt in the process of pointing their hypocrisy.

Having fat characters in some of these games would be idiotic because of how unfit they are, but doesn't that mean that should also apply to some of the examples we have already?
Doesn't the existence of games like Overwatch kind of disprove that, though? I mean, we could definitely go further with it because I love seeing diverse character designs instead of barbie and ken dolls, but we've been seeing improvements.
Yes and no; most of the female characters save for Mei and Zarya have roughly the same body type, and most of the male characters save for Reinhardt, Torb, and Roadhog (not counting the robots and the gorilla) are roughly the same. It's better than like Call of Duty or something, but they're not that diverse. I get confused with some of the female characters in the heat of the game sometimes because their silhouettes are similar, like mistaking Symmetra for larva Dva or occasionally Mercy if it's hard to see the wings. I think you're right overall though.
People usually don't usually call someone a cunt in the process of pointing their hypocrisy.
To be honest, no one who supports her videos responds to real criticism anyways. The conversation has been dead for years now. If I even point out that she's cherry picked all her videos and lied repeatedly to push an agenda, I'd get ignored or called sexist. I don't agree with calling her names but don't act like she didn't do that to avoid criticism and such. She certainly did

That said, I do think over the last few years we've started to see much more realistic body types, even if they are still idealized. The new Lara Croft is still plenty attractive, but her body is appropriate and even somewhat muscular given how much climbing she does. Nathan Drake is the same. Ciri in Witcher 3 is clearly fit and muscular, as she would be as a Witcheress. Aloy in Horizon: Zero Dawn appears to be well built. Yeah, we still get occasional characters like Quiet (and even then, she's based off a real actress), but I think we're seeing improvement.

Whoa, do give some examples from any popular game because I don't recall ever seeing an anorexic characters (or near) in any game I've played. Also, being huge like Zarya or a 'strongman', simply wouldn't even make any sense in most games context. At times, I think the people that strongly push for unconventional body types are insecure of seeing conventional attractive characters.
It wouldn't exactly be 'realistic' for a female person to look like Zarya from overwatch anyway, considering that female bodybuilders need to use male hormone replacements to look like that. But who cares about realism anyway? The 'idealistic' female characters in most popular recent non-stylized games (i.e. Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Titanfall, Halo, Call Of Duty) are far closer to what a fit, young, female person typically looks like than your average 'beefy mc'muscle head' male protag, but even then those types of characters tend to be limited to stylized works.
