Moldovan winery disrupts Russian space mission by refusing to ship critical supplies, ships to NASA
Purcari, a winery in the South-Eastern part of Moldova, is putting a Russian space mission at risk, following the company’s board decision not to supply their erythrocytes rich red blend, critical to cosmonauts’ diet. Instead, Purcari announced a new partnership with the NASA’s space-food program.
The Moldovan winery has been a long time supplier to the Federal Space Agency (FSA), the state body overseeing the Russian space exploration program managing an annual budget of 165 billion rubles (2.9 billion USD). Specifically, their Negru de Purcari Gagarin-edition, a space optimized version of a classical wine blend, is specifically engineered for a zero gravity environment. Coming in a cosmodynamic tube, the wine is resistant to spoilage due to accelerated oxidation and can be easily consumed.
Moldovans used the negotiations to push their own agenda. A Bloommberg source, who wanted to remain unnamed, asserts that Purcari management tried to use the FSA supplies as leverage in their negotiation with Russian authorities to lift an exports embargo, imposed on Moldovan goods back in September 2013. The embargo was widely interpreted as an attempt by Russian authorities to curb Moldova’s flirtation with EU accession. Concomitantly, the Moldovan winery was being actively courted by NASA’s own space food program, which wanted to build on Moldova’s 50 years of expertise in space food production.
Tiny Moldova, a former USSR republic sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, has long been a super-power of sorts when it comes to space optimized food. The laboratories at the Moldovan Institute for Microbiology and Biotechnology have been running the oldest space-food program, dating back to the first manned mission to space, featuring the Russian pioneer Yuri Gagarin, in April 1961. The program, launched a year prior to Gagarin’s flight, will soon celebrate 55 years since inception.
Erythrocyte is the scientific name for a red blood cell, so the article falls at the first hurdle there, unless Moldovans have some grisly habit i've never heard of in regards to their wine.

They probably meant erythrocyte enriching, rather than erythrocyte rich.

Which still wouldn't have made sense.
Why don't you wine about it, Roscosmos.

Now, when it comes to our wines – they are seriously good.
For instance, try the Sauvignon de Purcari, our newest 2014 vintage. Simply amazing. No joke.
