A lady i ran over with my bike 8 years ago wants me to pay her $13k. What do i do? - General

Hey there, FPers. A few minutes ago, i got a bill in the mail that made me wanna jump out of a freaking window. What follows is probably the biggest mistake ive ever made in my life. Okay, so about 8 years ago (I was 12), i went for a bike ride in the park with my dad. i was lagging behind, so i tried to go as fast as i could. That is, until i hit a huge hill and my brakes didnt work, and ended up going faster than i could. If that wasnt bad enough, there was a russian old lady taking pics at the bottom of the hill, and, well, you can guess the rest: “AUUUGGGHHHH!!! *crash*” So, surprisingly, i didnt have a scratch on me, and the lady was moaning in pain. Since i was really scared of consequences, on impulse I biked off. My dad called my weird name ( Which I wont disclose on here, ive heard the rumors FP) and called him saying i was coming. After today though, i think she heard my name as well. So, today i got a bill for medical expenses from 2002 that totaled over $13k. Since i have my own apartment now, i guess she white page'd my weird name and found me fast. Guys, i dont have close to 13k. What do i do?

Don't try to pay for the next 22 years so the bill expires. Or Just not pay (that what i would do) (you can always hide in Mexico or china..)

As much as FP is probably going to tell you "hurr pretend its not u screw govnment" you ran over a fucking lady and got her 13k in medical bills. Unless you want to come off as a complete douchebag by denying it all (and probably have her sue you) meet her in person and talk it out nicely. Ask her if there are other ways you can pay her, such as helping her with issues or working for her. Also you're a dick for biking off after running over a fucking poor lady. Consequences will never be the same.

She technically wants to sue a 12 year old, what a great woman.

You could probably just ignore her and the letter, but then you risk getting roped into a lawsuit.

Seriously, the lady could just call the guy's school from then and ask for a picture, or consult OP's dad, among many, many other things. Proving it would not be a problem at all. Pay the bill or get a lawyer and bring her into court. Whatever is cheaper.

She can't do jack shit. You were a minor when the incident happened so you don't have to pay anything. If you feel obligated to pay her but don't have the money, work out a monthly payment with the woman. If everyone was held responsible for things they did as children, a lot of people would be S.O.L. If I were in your position, I would ignore the bill and send her a sincere and heart felt apology for what you did and I would explain that you don't have the finances to cover the cost.
