CLEVELAND - A 9-year-old boy and a police officer, brought together because of their passion for Pokemon.
It is a combination that adds up to a heartwarming story about a man in blue who went above and beyond to help a young crime victim.
Officer Grotenrath says after his shift, he went home, rummaged through his closet and found his old collection.
The 26-year old and two-year Cleveland police veteran surprised Bryce.
He returned to his house, and gave up his own Pokemon collection as well as other cards he had stored.
Such a heartwarming story of a police officer going above and beyond to help this kid.
Damn that is some serious class right there.
That's cool of him. What are the odds of actually keeping something like that?
"Thanks mister but where are the holographics?"
"In a vault"
This week he was walking to a friend’s house in his Slavic Village neighborhood to show [his Pokemon cards] off. "Some kid stole them right out of my hand and he ran over there," he explained.
Whoever did that is a huge piece of shit and should feel bad.
It's actually pretty surprising how many adults collect the cards. Some of the rarest ones can actually go for ~$1,000 iirc

For most it's a childhood memory. For others it's "why throw them away, they're not doing any harm tucked away in a closet".

Or if your like me, you don't throw anything away because of the "coolness" factor :v:

Only Charizard and a handful of promo cards are actually worth something these days.

I suppose. All the people I know of have sold theirs by now (since some cards, especially the old ones, can be worth a whole load), and I gave mine away ages ago.
What a noble, upstanding citizen, and a sacrifice to make.
I wonder what his collection must have been like, he must of had tons! What a lucky kid.

It's not surprising at all. I'm 23 and pokemon got big in the US when I was in 2nd grade and this guy is barely older me. I'm not surprised he kept his cards since those same people who collected the cards or played the gameboy games are still buying the new pokemon games
Not worth it.
Seems like a nice gesture, but will the kid even be able to use 20 year old cards against the newer ones?
The kid collects them, he doesn't play with them.
That's what I did too, could never figure out how to play it.
Anyways, in the article's video he says that Ancient Mew card is 1 out of 10 in the world but I remember getting the exact same looking card as a kid from the Pokemon Movie. Is it the same card and the kid is just unaware or is there a slight difference?

The 'adult' in this story was born in 1989 or 1990. So he would have been like 8-10 when the cards came out. Not really a case of an adult collecting something, but a kid who just kept his shit I think.
Such an awesome deed!

I still have my rare Yugioh cards that I opened from boosters when I was younger.

Honestly didn't even know there were rules for an actual game until after the 90s fad was over.
Around my area, it was literally just a dick-waving contest on the playground before we knew what dick-waving was :v:

I remember getting a Mew card for seeing the movie as a promotional thing I don't think they are worth much. It's probably a different card (maybe only slightly) that was in regular packs or something.
I like how the video in the article shows Yu-Gi Oh! cards when talking about pokemon. :v:
Ha I still have the game boy games. Red and blue

Fuuuck. My collection got stolen when I was younger; would have been nice to sell seeing as I had a good chunk of the cards on that list with duplicates.

I didn't know that site was a thing. Pretty handy and now I have a better idea what this thing I have is worth so thanks for that.
I had no idea they were so valuable, I wouldn't have lost mine if I'd known. I think I had a shiny charizard, too, I remember a school friend giving it to me

Is that a thing that women have to be secretive about nowadays? I thought times had changed.
