Arrivals and departures were suspended after the incident at 16:30 BST, a spokesman for the airport said. No passengers were aboard at the time.
Oh boy - hope nobody's dead
I'm going to call it. Bad maintenance crews through fault of improper training like most African airlines, which will result in an EU wide ban... like most African airlines. Air Madagascar use car mechanics on aircraft, resulting in their ban. This has happened before.
"At this time it is believed no one was on board and there are no reports of any injuries. Fire is being treated as unexplained."
see? this is how hot it is in the uk, even planes from Africa can't deal with it
Oh hey its another 787 problem apparently. I kinda hope its not related to the battery problems..

Mechanic error or system fault? The 787 had a ton of bad press [editline]12th July 2013[/editline] This could be on the airline
Yeah, you didn't mention that it's a dreamliner. Which I guess is pretty bad news for Boeing, more public faults with them.
Yeah, you didn't mention that it's a dreamliner. Which I guess is pretty bad news for Boeing, more public faults with them.
I don't think the BBC had it in the article when this was first posted.
Mechanic error or system fault? The 787 had a ton of bad press
No idea yet. If its the batteries again, they are all getting grounded and being replaced with normal ones.
(quotes)
smurfy sneakily updated the post, the BBC weren't reporting it at the start. [editline]12th July 2013[/editline] Plane was empty by the way.

I kinda feel sorry for Boeing. Since the A380, they've been having no luck. I wonder how their 747-8s are going to do.
Runways back open, that was quick. I assume they only shut them because they didn't have the fire coverage due to the number of fire engines dealing with it.

Even if the plane was poorly maintained it will have only been in service a very short time.
I hope it something wrong with what the ground crew did and not the plane again.
Fire was near the back of the aircraft which was there the infamous electrical faults were previously I think. Not sounding good for Boeing at all, although the damage is also directly above the crew rest area.
All aboard the stock coaster: https://www.google.co.uk/finance?q=boeing god FUCKING DAMNIT TONY

it will rebound so buy buy buy
It's not a battery issue by the looks of it. Batteries located in the mid and forward part of the fuselage. Going to be interesting to see what triggered it.

Posting from Heathrow. Already been there for 9 hours. Just been traveling for 20 hrs so far and my next flight is delayed thanks to this. I have not slept enough to take this in a patient manner.

If its a battery problem again its really a shame for Boeing and 787. Cheaper composite materials, higher fuel efficiency, and modern batteries are all things all newer airplanes should use. Hopefully all this bad press won't effect how the next generation is built.
Well I'm over 7 hrs delayed. Sleeping over at airport. Collection of crying children here. Kill me now.
