A Democratic official who has spoken to Al Franken and key aides says Franken will resign his Minnesota Senate seat on Thursday, the official tells MPR News.
The official spoke to Franken and separately to Franken's staff. A staff member told the official that Franken had gone to his Washington home to discuss his plans with family.
MPR News agreed to withhold the official's name because the official wanted to give Franken the chance to talk about his decision in his own words.
Franken faced a cascade of calls Wednesday from fellow Democrats and other political allies to leave office in response to multiple allegations of sexual harassment.
After MPR News reported the planned resignation, a tweet from Franken's official account said it was "not accurate."
"No final decision has been made and the senator is still talking with his family," the tweet read.
So like... maybe?
Democrat Senators resign after accusations. Moore refuses to stop running for Senate and wants to radicalize the judiciary once he gets there.
Republicans don't get to claim to be the party of American family values anymore unless American family values recently included trying to fuck 14-year-old girls when you're in your 30s. No more arguing against abortion or gay rights in the name of traditional family values, just say what you really mean: I want to deprive rights from people I have no respect for.
Republicans need to lose control of at least one of the houses of Congress next year or else America might as well be downgraded to a failed experiment by 2024.
Well I guess that’s how it goes. One in, one out.
what happens next, a special election? is there a good chance of franken being replaced by another democrat?

Appointee by the governor, who happens to be a democrat.

If true, that's too bad. I hear the alleged victim of those sexual harassment claims actually forgave him. I might disagree with Franken politically and think he's a bit of a ponce, but I know he has some very sincerely-held convictions that guide his actions, and we could use more of that type in the Congress.

To be frank (no pun intended) there were photos of what Franken did, at least some of it. Moore's accusations have little to be seen actual evidence beyond accusation, which makes it easier to deflect and walk away from.
Moore is still a piece of shit, and the RNC has turned into the huge asshole that birthed it. Eisenhower Republicans be damned, They're going to ride the Alt-Right train straight into the ground.

Doesn't matter that she forgave him. He still made predatory moves on an underage girl. He needs to fuck off from office.

We can already confirm that Moore is a creep and a liar, what with him having been banned from malls for the exact behavior he's being accused of, and with his signature and personal note in the highschool yearbook of one of the "beautiful angels" claiming to have been assaulted by him -- a girl he stated that he had never even met.

There's no room for sexual predators in our nation's governing body. Regardless of Franken's beliefs or political service to our country, the only appropriate response to this situation is to immediately resign his post. Sadly, while the Democrats stand by their values and order the resignation of a sexual predator, the GOP urge their people to vote for one. What's "too bad" here is that the GOP puts party above everything, even to the point of propping up a child molester rather than risk losing a seat to the Democrats.

I think Franken should go, but think all of his accusers were adults AFAIK

Not to Godwin myself into the ground, but I feel at this point the GOP would gladly vote for Hitler if he just said "Conservative tax policies"
Society doesn't mean anything to 2017 republicans.
Politicians should be held to a much higher standard than the vast majority of other positions. This entire fucking debacle is completely baffling in many ways.

What relevance does this have? Sexual harassment is sexual harassment.
What relevance does this have? Sexual harassment is sexual harassment.
It was a reply to someone claiming that "He still made predatory moves on an underage girl."
What relevance does this have? Sexual harassment is sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment is sexual harassment, but there are other factors to consider.
Any time you have authority over someone and abuse that, there are extra layers of reprehensible behavior added.

I... don't know what happened in my brain there, for some reason I completely blanked out on the quote. Am I dying? :vs:
Is Minnesota typically blue? Will a Democrat likely replace him?
Is Minnesota typically blue? Will a Democrat likely replace him?
According to someone in the thread, he'll be replaced by an appointee from the governor, who is a Democrat. That said, it's nice to see some accountability rather than party over country bullshit letting politicians get off the hook when it's convenient.
Balls in the republicans court now, that shit is no longer acceptable in the blue halls

They can't hear you over the sound of the #MAGA train winning all day long. Also, Fox News is turned up to 115dB so you'll have to use sign language.

I agree, but lmao do you know what country you're talking about here?
