Looks like the same guy who played DooM has struck another game.
Its not that bad, last time I tried to play an old sonic game it looked like this. After 10 years you get bad at them. Fucking music on the second stage is siiick
Imo I think these next games from SEGA are going to be the best ones so far.
Looks like the same guy who played DooM has struck another game.
He clearly knew how to play a sonic game. He probably has not played one in a long time.
Those maps seem huge
polygon once again shows how to not play any game.
Could this be the game that finally breaks the infamous Sonic Cycle? It might be from the looks of it.
Fucking music on the second stage is siiick
I second that!
Well, now I have to buy it, right? Anyway, the gameplay and level design shows that this is heavily inspired by S3nK. I can't thank enough Stealth and Taxman for this.
Those maps seem huge
Hopefully with the artstyle will allow them to include many levels without them running into space constraints, we all know what that did to Sonic 2.
Whoever's playing obviously knows what they're doing, I think you're just hating just to hate. Then again it is polygon :v:

I love how the clapboard platforms actually display your time and how many times you jumped on them
Anyone got a mirror that doesn't grace Polygon with even one view? [Editline]bleh[/editline] Derp
The animation quality in the spritework is fantastic. You can really tell a lot of effort went into it.
I don't understand, I think they're playing the game fine.
This is truly the game that'll save the Sega 32X. :v: Seriously though I'm hyped.
The animation quality in the spritework is fantastic. You can really tell a lot of effort went into it.
Clearly the team behind it really cares and knows what it wants to do, it's kinda funny that Sonic mania looks inventive compared to the more "modern" Sonic 4 games
Literally what I pictured in my head when they first announced Sonic 4, before they revealed that the game would actually be shit [editline]4th September 2016[/editline] Studiopolis looks so cool, I'm excited if the rest of the zones are going to be as creative as that [editline]4th September 2016[/editline] The little orange ball guy who gets sadder as you damage him more (7:15). Amazing [editline]4th September 2016[/editline] It's weird seeing the old art style running at a high framerate. Looks good though
The little orange ball guy who gets sadder as you damage him more (7:15). Amazing
the very sad orbinaut he has lost all hope
I love the sprite work but what the fuck is going on with these rings after he gets hit?
I love the sprite work but what the fuck is going on with these rings after he gets hit?
The Blue Ring monitor he hit was the Combi-Ring Monitor from Knuckles' Chaotix. It groups up Rings by ten (if I remember right) when you get hit as larger, easier to grab rings for a single hit.

Knuckles Chaotix wasn't the best game, but it had some cool exclusive power ups. Now I just want to see some cool level gimmicks that are fun to use. Thinking of the shrink ray in Sonic CD or the reversed gravity sections in S3&K.

So to access the Special Stages are exactly like Sonic 3 & Knuckles. That's pretty cool.
I'm hoping this ends up being the classic sonic game that continuously builds off itself. Like you'll get its main release with a ton of stages but hopefully add a ton more through either free patches or DLC. I could see it being timeless.
I hope there's ancient magical ruins levels. I'm a sucker for ancient magical ruins.
Oh my god, that second level. That looks so fun to play, the general style is really smooth and snazzy, and the music is GREAT. This is what I love about more classical-type Sonic titles: Sonic Team's sense of musical style. Jazz and such, y'know?
I personally REALLY want a remastered/definitive version of S3&K. That said, I'm fucking excited for mania.
This game has one thing no 2D Sonic game has ever had before: view distance.
