This would make a fun party game that would last like an hour.
Wow a video where Maddox isn't whining about something asinine?
How to tell if you believe in bullshit: you listen to maddox and take his opinions seriously (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Craptasket))
This would make a fun party game that would last like an hour.
goddamn here comes eric again, he asked the new girl if she's ever seen the curvature of the earth already, hurry and check the top shelf of my closet I got this covered
How to tell if you believe in bullshit: you listen to maddox and take his opinions seriously
TRAP CARD ACTIVATED: Ad Hominem; attacking the validity of an argument [IE: Scientific Method is a thing you should use to prove/disprove theories] via redirects toward the presenter's character rather than their statement. Put down your cards and go home
How to tell if you believe in bullshit: you listen to maddox and take his opinions seriously
Are you suggesting that the scientific method is bullshit, or just shitposting without watching the video?
Are you suggesting that the scientific method is bullshit, or just shitposting without watching the video?
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
believing aliens exist is your hypothesis, and isn't wrong (nor right!) until proven otherwise. HOWEVER, in his example looking at a streak in the sky and shouting "the aliens are coming!" is trying to jump to 'correct/incorrect' without experiment or evidence, so basing further beliefs such as alien UFO sightings and claims of visits based on blurry images is dangerous territory and remains unprovable (and bullshit) until someone can finally drag it out of hypothesis limbo with raw evidence.
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
he never said aliens don't exist
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
I think he is mainly aiming at the people who take their shit extremely seriously. Conspiracy theorists I assume.
Jesus, Maddox. Just shave your head already.
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
You just successfully combined ignorance and ad hominem. You lose one crediblility point.
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
Did you even watch the video
Put down your cards and go home
Why, because he won the argument? Ad Hominems are the #1 best way to win an argument online. For example: You have an avatar with anthropomorphised animals. You also have a tumblr account which you proudly display. Therefore you're a feminist SJW furry-kin and you're opinions worthless. Checkmate.
not if I ban you first nerd
not if I ban you first nerd
that would require you to actually moderate tho you lazy SHIT
not if I ban you first nerd
If you do that then you're admitting I'm right. You're move.
The scientific method isn't bullshit, but I still believe that aliens exist and the scientific method has nothing to do with what I choose to believe Also I dislike Maddox in general
You can blindly believe a lot of things, but if something is disproved, you can't really believe it exists anymore. Aliens are in that grey area of "you can't disprove or prove they exist" because there isn't evidence going either way.
He kept using the words "theory" and "hypothesis" interchangeably. That's my only issue with the video.
Sorry Maddox, but the scientific method isn't the only way to know truth. (hint, you can't prove that the scientific method works without using some other method of finding truth)
Sorry Maddox, but the scientific method isn't the only way to know truth.
It seems to me that there's no other way to validate knowledge realistically
If you do that then you're admitting I'm right. You're move.
does anybody have a vbullitin 5e handbook nearby I need to reference the rules again
If you do that then you're admitting I'm right. You're move.
Is this the part where you avoid the argument by pointing out its "Your" not "You're"
It seems to me that there's no other way to validate knowledge realistically
You must have just missed my edit. You can't validate that the scientific method works without using something beyond the scientific method. So on it's face the claim can't be true because it's self-contradictory.
Sorry Maddox, but the scientific method isn't the only way to know truth. (hint, you can't prove that the scientific method works without using some other method of finding truth)
what on earth can you do besides observe > does it need answering [if yes]> what do you need to answer this > run tests around that? the only way you can bypass the method is if observation is the final test. You can confirm a thing is a thing, but that's usually based on prior knowledge that had to experiment and verify it in the first place. [editline]e[/editline] claiming the scientific method can't be right by sheer virtue of not being able to use it on itself is pretty ignorant
what on earth can you do besides observe > does it need answering [if yes]> what do you need to answer this > run tests around that? the only way you can bypass the method is if observation is the final test. You can confirm a thing is a thing, but that's usually based on prior knowledge that had to experiment and verify it in the first place
For one, there's the idea of basic beliefs. Like I said, the claim that the scientific method is the only way to know truth is fundamentally self-contradictory because you can't prove the claim with the scientific method.
"I observe order in the world" "I ask why there is order in the world" "I hypothesize there is logic in the world" "I.... fuck... how does one imagine an experiment that would disprove logic?" "Logic is a thing! Trust me, okay."
For one, there's the idea of basic beliefs.
You must have just missed my edit. You can't validate that the scientific method works without using something beyond the scientific method.
Is this 14th century philosophy 101 or something?
Come on now, the problem of self-contradiction has been known far longer than that! It's a basic tenet of logic.
