I'm legitimately curious though, was someone pranking him or something
did they find some homeless dude off the street, dress him up and go "Mr. President, meet the president"
besides 'he is dumb' because that's obvious, like how is it that this guy actually said this
I didn't really know much about PR myself but I'm an ignorant peasant so at least I have that excuse
How is our president this fucking stupid? Someone had to have fucked with him some how.

The POTUS doesn't know our amendments either.

To be fair I didn't know that, and I'm sure 90% of other american's didn't know that. However, he IS the president. I mean, if I signed up for that role i'd do a little research.
A lot presidents have a substantial history in politics and or law and would probably be versed in the amendments.
After how he treated the mayor of San Juan and threatened to cut aid to Puerto Rico I'm pretty sure he doesn't (or at least didn't before he was briefed on it after all the stupidity) know that they're both part of the United States. That's just... that's just horrible. I know it doesn't reflect well on the presidents before him either, but we should be building these territories up not treating them like leaches sucking of "the real 'murica's" teat.

Even then, shouldn't the staff be on hand to tell him, so fuck ups like these don't happen?

He's just trying look good for his constituents. I doubt even they know that the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are US territories.
"I just met with so and so, terrific person, just terrific. I'm getting shit done. I am working hard- harder than ever before- to get things done for the American people."
[editline]14th October 2017[/editline]
That, or he totally knows his presidency covers the Virgin Islands, but he suspects it'll go over people's heads so he blatantly lies that he met their president just to look good/important.
He really is a mirror reflection of his supporters. Smug, self-righteous, narcissistic to a fault, completely oblivious of anything beyond the 50 states, misinformed, chronically untruthful, easily manipulated, racially biased... the list goes on forever.
A lot presidents have a substantial history in politics and or law and would probably be versed in the amendments.
But Trump is your stereotypical rich businessman, not a politician or a person who ever studied law. Or at least this is what I believe.
Every president has these gaff videos, it's like people forget that the president is also a human being. I never really cared about all the gaffs Obama made, like how he said America has 57 states. It's just an honest mistake.
you guys know there are 3 sets of virgin islands, and that we only control 2 of them, right? british virgin islands don't have a president but maybe he met with vivian archibald or orlando smith or augustus jaspert and thought president would be easier for his listeners to digest than premier

so either he's a moron or he treats his listeners like children?

I think both

not really the point. I mean to say that everyones specifically shitting on him saying "but you are the president of the virgin islands" completely ignoring that there are virgin islands that he isn't president of
Okay I normally support the Trump hate train but this article and the comments in this thread alike are retarded
Wasn't he referring to the governor of the virgin islands, Kenneth Mapp? You guys can't seriously sit there and go "PFFF WHAT A IIDDDIOT HE DOESNT EVEN KNOW HES DA PRESIDENT LOL" over some stupid semantic, especially knowing hes one to not really care for his choice of words

In which case, great, the head of one of the biggest superpowers in the world doesn't know the difference between a governor and a president.
That's exactly the point I'm trying to make though. To him, everything is a stupid semantic - it doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't know the difference - why is anyone acting surprised that he doesn't care whatsoever for the connotation of any words he uses?
It's like making an article about the sky still being blue and grass still growing green.

Stupidity coming from Trump should be expected, but it shouldn't be accepted. Your mindset is "eh what can you do, that's just how things go" which is damn close to it. As if we should stop holding him accountable for his idiocy just because we already know he's an idiot. No, thanks
We should definitely hold him accountable for it but I don't think every other post on FP needs to be about Trump to get that point acrossed and regardless of the scenario I don't really like seeing things taken out of context I guess

Nah I agree this is a small blunder by Trump standards, could have happened to better presidents. Still, Trump is not one of those presidents, and I don't enjoy even the slightest inching towards it becoming commonplace, is all
