The Xbox One and PS4 versions of Assassin's Creed Unity reportedly struggle to maintain a steady 30 frames per second.

Digital Foundry's performance test shows that both new-gen versions consistently fail to run at a smooth 30fps frame rate.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/480899/assassins-creed-unity-struggles-to-maintain-30fps-xbox-one-smoother-than-ps4/ Articles like this make me glad on PC we can just brute force a game to run better by the route of better hardware. I'm genuinely starting to wonder now if this games optimisation is a disaster on the scale of GTA 4.
is this the end of ass creed?
Roles reversed, everyone would be getting on xboxes ass. Bad optimization or not
wow, ubisoft managed to make a shitty optimized game, while DICE made BF4 in 1080p and 60fps on ps4
30 FPS isn't smooth to begin with
30 FPS isn't smooth to begin with
Smoother than below 30 fps, most console games struggle even to maintain a steady 30 fps.
For those wondering, Xbone is smoother because Xbone version has less crowd in it than PS4. I've noticed quite a difference in NPC sizes PS4 having more NPCs on screen than Xbone, hence the less frames. I wonder how big of a gain in FPS would be if they cut down the crowd sizes to AC2 levels.
Reminds me about that thread about Ubisoft saying they think the industry is dropping the 60fps standard. Seems they underestimated their own incompetence when they said they'd be going for 30fps.
And to think their target was for 1080p and 60fps. They're missing about 40fps.

"to avoid the debates and stuff"
Ubisoft has always been bad at optimization, this much was discussed yesterday as it is, but whatever idiot decided having all those filler NPCs (who aren't even stable in terms of loading if their models, faces, clothes and such can change in plain view on a dime) fill the streets to make it 'accurate' to the French Revolution should probably be fired. Especially if the devs knew well in advance the NPCs were murdering the performance and CPU and practically publicly admitted it but got overshadowed by stupid PR speak within the same article. Supposedly the game becomes much more stable in terms of framerate when you enter the time anomalies and there's no NPCs around during these events.

Should have had other 3-4 months in the oven to fix glitches and improve framerate But nope, gotta get it out in time for black friday
You can't even hit 30FPS Ubisoft. You can't even hit the bare minimum.

BF4 runs like butter [editline]13th November 2014[/editline]
Reminds me about that thread about Ubisoft saying they think the industry is dropping the 60fps standard. Granted Ubisoft is bad at optimization, the gen of consoles just feels underwhelming. I haven't seen any games blow me away because of how great the hardware is. All the consoles feel like Xbox 360 1.4 or PS3 1.4.
"Assassin's Creed dev thinks industry is dropping 30 fps standard"
"Games are more cinematic when played at 20 fps."
wow, ubisoft managed to make a shitty optimized game, while DICE made BF4 in 1080p and 60fps on ps4
No it isn't. It's 900p, and it can get to 60fps, but it rarely does, especially in multiplayer. I've played over 300hrs of BF4 on PS4, and don't get me wrong it's fun as dicks and runs at playable framerates/res, but is aint 1080/60 for shit.
Compare this (watch in 720p or more) to any other AC Unity gameplay and tell me 30 fps is smooth.
I never implied that 30 fps is smooth but my point is that most games on console are barely holding up to 30 except a few titles. Destiny balances it really well, it never goes below 30 and despite having some major action on screen, it does not struggle to keep a stable framerate. Which is already an achievement to be honest.
"We are focusing on 24 FPS because that is the same frame rate you get with most movies. Therefor we cap all our games at 24 FPS for the true cinematic experience"
Games are better when they look like an early 1900's era silent movie.
wow, ubisoft managed to make a shitty optimized game, while DICE made BF4 in 1080p and 60fps on ps4
BF4 is 900p on PS4 and neither console keeps 60fps very well.
Smoother than below 30 fps, most console games struggle even to maintain a steady 30 fps.
[citation needed] In reality, only a minority of console games suffer from problems like an unstable or lower than intended framerate.
Games are better when they look like an early 1900's era silent movie.
"We've been getting a lot of feedback from players and testers alike and we think the game would be a lot better as an aural-only experience. You don't have to strain your eyes any more looking at things, and the game will look as good as you can imagine!" - Ubisoft Montreal, 2014
If MGSV can manage 60FPS why can't this? Just seems like poor optimisation and laziness on the developers' part.
[citation needed] In reality, only a minority of console games suffer from problems like an unstable or lower than intended framerate.
I don't know about you but I play both on pc and console. I notice huge framerate drops in certain games depending on what is actually happening and honestly it should always stay at a 30 frames per second. Dark Souls 1, Halo 4, Mass Effect, Lords of the Fallen or GTA have extreme unstable framerates on consoles. It's always under 30 fps or hits the 30 fps barely. Those are a few examples, framerate should be at a steady 30 fps at all times, it's a bare minimum for games to play smoothly. Games like Destiny, Diablo 3, Dark Souls 2, Resident Evil 5 & 6, Shadow of Mordor run usually at 30 frames or even more. My point is that framerate on consoles is just highly variable and it is really annoying. Like I mentioned, more steady framerates would be a good start even if it sacrifices some graphical fidelity. Why the dumb?
It does have gorgeous graphics, though.:suicide:
