Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), head of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, announced Tuesday that he would work with his Democratic colleagues to “stabilize and strengthen” the individual insurance market under the Affordable Care Act, which the president has badgered the Senate to keep trying to repeal. Alexander also urged the White House to keep up payments to insurers that help low-income consumers afford plans, which Trump has threatened to cut off. Several Republican senators have sought to distance themselves from the president, who has belittled them as looking like “fools” and tried to strong-arm their agenda and browbeat them into changing a venerated rule to make it easier to ram through legislation along party lines.
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/08/02/politics/senate-health-care-hearing-bipartisan/index.html
Several Republican and Democrat lawmakers agree that Congress needs to prevent a collapse of the health insurance market, which could hurt millions of consumers -- and that concern has opened up some bipartisan dialogue. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tennessee, said the Senate health committee will hold bipartisan health care hearings on how to repair the individual market. In the House, a group of 40 lawmakers from both parties endorsed an outline of ideas aimed at making urgent fixes to Obamacare. The step toward bipartisanship on health care comes as some Republicans consider an approach that diverges from the president's stance.
And who knew it'd only take a mutant, inbred orangutan to get some cooperation across the aisles. The more people to stand up to the bully-in-chief, the better.
just a side note, i keep seeing the senator from Tennessee out there talking about death spirals and need to fix/gut this. tenn is one of the states that did not take the medicaid expansion at all, and did not set up their own health exchange. they basically did nothing, and are wondering why their federal health exchange is falling to pieces. it just sort of infuriates me that the states complaining the most are the ones that have done the least amount for their people. anyways, go bipartisanship! i hope it doesn't fall to pieces, but unfortunately the house has write any finance bill first and thats going to be a clusterfuck

Nice to hear some positive news for once. I hope this actually goes somewhere.
All of us know if this works out positively he'll swoop in and take all the credit anyways.
All of us know if this works out positively he'll swoop in and take all the credit anyways.
Who cares, though? Pretty much anyone who's willing to accept Trump giving himself credit for anything at this point is brainwashed to shit anyways. Besides, the only way Trump can "take credit" for this is in the same way if you found a colony of flies living in your house and then cleaned your house up in response, you could technically give the flies credit for your cleaner house.

In other news, reports are coming in that the white house has just received over 3 truck loads of bananas
Nice to hear some positive news for once. I hope this actually goes somewhere.
If they're trying to repair a damaged insurance industry, they're going the wrong way, IMO. Instead, they need to dismantle the health insurance industry entirely
