• 5.3 Magnitude Earthquake in North Korea, SK Reports It Was Artifical, Could Be Nuke Test
North Korea is suspected of carrying out its fifth test of a nuclear bomb, after a magnitude 5.3 earthquake was detected close to its test site. South Korea's Yonhap news agency said it had been an "artificial quake". An unnamed South Korean government source said it was highly likely to have been a nuclear test. There has been no confirmation from the North, but previous artificial earthquakes in that area and of that magnitude have all been nuclear tests. Recent satellite imagery and intelligence has indicated increased activity at the Punggye-ri site, where North Korea carried out its previous tests, indicating a fifth was imminent. Oh boy here we go again.
Are there any aftershocks? If not than a nuke test sounds likely.
Woo, new happening. WW3 when?
USGS lists its depth as 0km. It's a nuclear test.
Where would be the first place NK would send a nuke?
Where would be the first place NK would send a nuke?
Probably the ocean
Where would be the first place NK would send a nuke?
By choice? Anywhere Where will it actually go? Nowhere.
Where would be the first place NK would send a nuke?
Wouldn't be surprised if they put them at bottlenecks along their border as a last-ditch defense mechanism. I don't see North Korea going on an offensive. Their main weapon is provocation so they can be the victim of western imperialism. Appear strong when you are weak is as old as Sun Tzu, North Korea has no intention of attacking anyone offensively.
By choice? Anywhere Where will it actually go? Nowhere.
Haha so funny, better laugh it up while you still can
What if all that time they've been digging a tunnel to USA?! [sp]boom![/sp]
You laugh now, but North Korea knows where the deep ones live. If we don't stop them they'll awaken all sorts of eldritch horrors!
they wouldn't nuke lil ol us we're just a peaceful lil country
Where would be the first place NK would send a nuke?
I dunno, South Korea? Hell if they wanted they could glass the DMZ.
Haha so funny, better laugh it up while you still can
What are they gonna do, launch it with an Acme slingshot?
What are they gonna do, launch it with an Acme slingshot?
Regardless of how much we mock them, remember that they have both ballistic missile AND nuclear weapons technology. ISIS barely has the former. Any other country does not dare even test their nukes anymore. They don't need to nuke the states to make their point. They're surrounded by relatively close targets who even if they experience an air detonation will still suffer the consequences.
Haha so funny, better laugh it up while you still can
What else am I going to do? What else are you going to do? Are you going to have any effect on this event? No? Me neither. I can't do anything about it so I might as well laugh at it while I can because I don't know what else you expect. Should I write my local Canadian MP because I read a news story about it? What would that do? Would my MP change the world? You may have just said that as a passing joke but I have no doubt you and I are equally meaningless in the context of these events. Just think about why you wanted to stop me from having a laugh
How big would a nuke have to be to destabilize or fracture a tectonic plate? edit: If it was detonated above near the surface* obviously it would depend on the location it detonated
The fact that there are people out there still willing to use nuclear weapons is scary
What are they gonna do, launch it with an Acme slingshot?
They've put satellites in to freaking orbit for Christ's sake (probably not stable orbits, but they've got them up there nonetheless). They aren't cartoon villain levels of incompetent, and it's a matter of when -- not if -- they'll ever have the capability to build a nuke and a rocket that will be able to make landfall on American soil. Now, whether or not they'd ever actually use such a device is completely open to speculation; it'd be an insanely stupid move to do so, but it's still within the realm of possibility.

I know we like to shit on NK but they are a real danger. They have nuclear weapons, (possibly) the means to deploy them and are unstable.
Are there any aftershocks? If not than a nuke test sounds likely.
nuclear weapons tests have a very unique earthquake signature
There is a bigger chance US detonating one of their own by mistake inside the country.
I know this is hyperbole but I really can't help but question even a joke about the U.S. being careless enough with our nukes to accidentally detonate one in North Korea of all places. We're not exactly going to misplace an armed ICBM.

They have to miniaturize their weapons, design proper guidance systems, and somehow get them past American anti-ballistic missile systems. It's not going to happen.

Even though probably impossible, IMO still more probable than NK actually attacking US with one.
No, I meant one of the US nukes exploding inside the US in a freak accident.
