• Sources familiar with Apple’s iOS internal testing say there are radical UI changes, claims interfac

again rumor here guys
One source tells 9to5mac that the new iOS 7, set to be unveiled at WWDC in June, is “very, very flat.” The site says it’s “potentially unsettling” for longtime fans of the platform. Currently, iOS boasts skeuomorphic design that gives the graphics a more life-like look. Another person familiar with the matter said, “the interface loses all signs of gloss, shine, and skeuomorphism seen across current and past versions of iOS.” Yet another person described iOS 7 as having “a level of ‘flatness’ approaching recent releases of Microsoft’s Windows Phone ‘Metro’ UI.” Customers won’t find it more difficult to use iOS 7, the sources said, adding that while the software does look different, its core services (including the stock apps) will “mostly operate in a similar fashion to how they do today.” The major changes are a new icon set for all the apps that ship with the software by default, as well as new tool bars and tab bars. The next batch of iOS devices prepared by Apple will have “polarizing filters to decrease viewing angles of on-lookers,” according to the report. Another thing that got leaked is the actual code name of the software. Apple refers to iOS 7 as “Innsbruck” internally. Finally, Apple has reportedly implemented a type of information panels across the iOS 7 UI, a system that resembles Notification Center. iOS 7 is scheduled to debut at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10.
personally I am all for this. Android's current UI design language, Holo, is very flat. Flat UI's don't suffer from the ricey look that gives off that alienware vibe of eye sore. Love to see what Jon Ive cooks up [editline]30th April 2013[/editline] http://news.softpedia.com/news/iOS-7-Said-to-Be-Very-Very-Flat-May-Unsettle-Some-Users-349523.shtml
Im actually looking forward to this change, the bubbly UI doesn't go with the newer designs and shapes of the newer products.
Well, that's awful. That was one thing i liked about apples products, the UI is really pretty.
Yay for flat and boring future.
Well, that's awful. That was one thing i liked about apples products, the UI is really pretty.
and had shitty tacky skeuomorphism see: calendar app, game center, original podcasts app
I can't wait for apple to start prancing around bragging about how "new" and "revolutionary" their new UI is despite the fact that some of it's competitors have made similar UIs before they did :v:
I'll take it. I'm quite tired of the high shine, gloss, and bubbly UI we've had this whole time.
Yay for flat and boring future.
It's not flat and boring at all. Not any more boring than the old iPhone UI anyway
and had shitty tacky skeuomorphism see: calendar app, game center, original podcasts app
I personally prefer them to the boring minimalism.

If you look at any Windows phone and think that os is boring, you should get your eyes checked
matte gradients over glossy shine and flat colours every DAY
It can't come soon enough considering Apple's UI design pretty much reached its lowest point with the current iPod nano
I bet they took inspiration from the most popular jailbreak themes.
matte gradients over glossy shine and flat colours every DAY
everything is aged photo-filtered with white helvetica
If you look at any Windows phone and think that os is boring, you should get your eyes checked
or maybe they just have a different opinion to you crazy idea, i know
or maybe they just have a different opinion to you crazy idea, i know
Yeah at one point I was seriously considering buying a Lumia 920 until I actually used one.
everything is sepiatoned with with white helvetica
this is what i'm on about, an evolution of the ui
Apple's complained so much about competitor's "unoriginality" and "copycat" designs, and here I am reading about Apple's bandwagon approach to the new iOS design.
I think this is great news. I hate skeuomorphism. It looks so ugly I can't believe how Apple of all companies thought it would be a good idea.
Apple's complained so much about competitor's "unoriginality" and "copycat" designs, and here I am reading about Apple's bandwagon approach to the new iOS design.
I don't think they're so much copying their competitors as they are finally bringing a UI that's looked hideous and out of date for quite some time up to date.
I think this is great news. I hate skeuomorphism. It looks so ugly I can't believe how Apple of all companies thought it would be a good idea.
It looked great for a while, it's just dated at this point.
I'd really like to see them ditch square app icons and allow distinctive outlines like in Android and any desktop OS Don't know if they will though. Rounded square icons are kind of associated with mobile apps in a lot of people's minds and I can imagine Apple valuing that and not wanting to change it
In all honesty I'm a bit of a sucker for the iOS design and the iOS software itself - I'm just not a fan of the money-hungry tactics Apple loves to rely on. (that and iOS is so closed!) I sport an Android just because I like Google over Apple. Apple's hypocrisy only adds distance between me and their products.
Yay for flat and boring future.
beige it up like its 1995
Maybe they'll add a theme store to deter people from jailbreaking. One can dream.
Maybe they'll add a theme store to deter people from jailbreaking. One can dream.
Tbh paying for the ui to look different would be a bit bullshit. I can customize the fuck out of windows for free, there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to change around color schemes and stuff in my iphone's settings. Surely its not that difficult to implement.
I'll admit the current UI does look boring simply because it's been around so long.

iOS now reminds me of Steam's UI before the 2010 redesign I was so fucking tired of that shit by the time they replaced it. Looking back now it's unbelievable that they were still using it as late as 2010. It looks extremely 2004
