By embedding a nano-sized transistor inside a cell-like membrane, scientists
link humans and machines more intimately than ever.
- Scientists embedded a biologically powered transistor inside a cell membrane.
- The device is the most intimate binding of man and machine yet achieved.
- The research could lead to new man-machine interfaces.

:science:
Is its heart human, its blood boiling, its brain IBM?
I wonder how much memory my cells will have.
Skynet is growing.

Fuck yes! Between this and the synthetic single celled life form, we're going to be some bad ass motherfuckers in fifty years.

Holy shitmackerel yes.

We'd all be awesome.

This is just awesome, embeding transistors within cells gives a much better interface and allows the body to give signals. I can see these being attached to the spinal collumn and giving far better artificial limbs or better response times on exoskeletons. SO MUCH AWESOME.

It looks like the Cyborg Age is far closer than I ever expected. I just hope biohardware isn't going to be TOO expensive...
I just thought of something, these things would be able to pick up the small electrical impulses from the neurons in the brain. That makes it possible for mind reading or even proper mental interfaces.

Would be awesome.
Maybe not mind reading cause we would have to find out how to translate the signals, although mental interfaces for sure.

It would just be a matter of figuring out where to interface and the syntax for the signals. A team of researchers with access to the signals produced from monitoring it along with some cryptologists have a very good chance of figuring out how to read it.

Hopefully this could be used to let people with degenerative nerve diseases control robotic arms and communicate using text, by just thinking.

I thought they already managed to do this? They got someone playing space invaders using their brain

I think they used EEGs and looked for certain trends in wanting to move this way and let the computer take that as an instruction. These can get alongside the individual neurons and test the cells themselves, find when certain connections fire and learn what they mean.
Yeah the games like 3 rockets and you have think a certain way and change the ratios of brain waves around to make a certain ship move ahead and stuff like that.
And no doubt with enough time and energy put into this we will work out mind reading but for the most part I don't see much use for it unless it's for coma victims and the like.

Yeah, I have horrible short term memory, I would love to be able to install a few gigs of ram in my brain and have it fixed.

I think you need a new Hard drive as your current one is losing data.
