Hey everyone. A lot of you out there are curious when it comes to body art and modification. Yes, I'm talking about piercings, tattoos, and the likes. This thread will go as in-depth as possible into the subject, and it'll make you more comfortable with your body, and how it's a canvas ready for art.
Lets start off with the basics.
Tattoos:

Tattoos come in many shapes and sizes, and can be put virtually anywhere on the human body. Yes, that's including eyeballs.
[img_thumb]http://www.geekologie.com/2008/02/28/eyeball-tattoo.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6mInrRo61k0/SI6OiBvi1UI/AAAAAAAAAFg/-yksnEI0ws8/s400/eye2.bmp[/img_thumb]
How are tattoos applied?
Tattoo guns are the choice for applying a tattoo. Tattoo guns are basically big pens with little motors on them, that plug into the wall. Certain needles are inserted into the guns, and can be change frequently, and easily. The little engine on the gun motions the needle to move up and down at very fast speeds so puncturing the skin can be achieved with no problems. There are a range of needles, for different purposes. Smaller needles are used more for fine detailing and outlining, while bigger ones are used for coloring and shading. The pens tip is dipped frequently in ink, and the needles penetrate the skin, pushing the ink under many layers, causing the permanence. Traditional methods are still used today, like the traditional Samoan/Polynesian method where a stick with needles would be repeatedly tapped into the skin.

Do tattoos hurt?
YES!!! It's a needle penetrating your skin thousands of times a minute! It hurts like a motherfucker! But one factor in how much it's going to hurt is where you get your tattoo, and how your nervous structure is set up. You may find it to be a lot less painful than others. A lot of it is based on where nerves are and your pain tolerance. But for the most part, expect to feel the urge to bite down on something.
How can I get my tattoos removed?
Thanks to science (:science:), there are more easier(yet, just as painful) methods for removing a tattoo. Most people don't usually remove tattoos, but instead they cover their older ones with more prettier ones. This is very common, and very hard to notice if done properly. Here's an example.
[img_thumb]http://tattoosbymasami.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/cover-up-tattoo.jpg[/img_thumb]
One of the more recent methods of tattoo removal is by laser. Yes, by laser. You're probably wondering, "How in the hell do they use a laser to remove your tattoo?" Well, it's easy. The laser "pen" if you will, shoots pulses of laser through the layers of your skin, to where the tattoo pigments absorb it, and break down. Your body's immune system then rejects the broken down particles, and removes them. This is a painful process that can take years to complete. So make sure you get a tattoo that you won't regret 10 years ahead of time.

MORE WILL BE COVERED, SUCH AS PIERCINGS, AND SCARIFICATION.
That eyeball one is retarded and he's going to kill himself when he gets older.

More like awesome. I want to be a Fremen.

Talk about overkill, eh?
I think taking it too far, like the eyeball tattoo and generally ludicrous body modification is stupid.
Looks cool, but you'll probably regret it later in life.
Someone should tattoo their eyeballs black and crawl into a church while speaking Latin backwards.
I have 2 tattoos
If I remember the eyeballs were people who worked in the body modification community and it was more of a test to see if it would work .
In that case it isnt going to hinder them to find work.
I have friends who have stretched their ears and than need to have them put back once they enter the work force but that was a personal choice.
I have tattoos but have made sure to get them in areas that i can easily cover up with clothing. I also thought really hard about the designs and researched my artist very carefully. They cost more from the artists I got but they also look a lot better and I knew they would do a good job

Yes, this is a very important factor in deciding where you want to get your art done.

This reminds me of the thread where one Facepuncher asked whether to get his dick pierced, everyone said no, then he did it anyway.
Anyone else remember that? It was golden.
I've been thinking about getting a little usb symbol tattoo on my wrist or something to start out with.

I thought eye tattoos were illegal since it could cause you to go blind.

Fun fact: Getting a nerdy tattoo/wearing similarly nerdy apparel is not as smooth, alternative as one would hope
You'll spend most the time that people are interested in it either explaining what it is, defending why you got it, or being told it was a mistake.
Unless it's somehow radically made a difference to your life or you invented it, I sincerely doubt it holds the investment in you worth permanently etching it into your flesh

I've got a lot of canvas left.
God, laser removal looks painful.
I doubt getting a tattoo is as painful as people make it out to be.
I mean, if some ditsy woman has a high enough pain tolerance to get a tramp stamp, I'd think I'd do just fine.
WARNING: DO NOT GET A GIRLFRIENDS NAME ON YOU. IT'S RETARDED.
My bro got one of some girl named Jennifer and they broke up a week later and it's still there YEARS later. -0-
By the way, that traditional way was very cool, and so was the slow mo, It looks a lot more painful than I thought. Informative for you because I learned things. ;3
I'll get a tattoo pretty soon
Tattoos are only just now being accepted by society, any other body modification pretty much sets your life on course for you. You will only be able to work where other people with body mods work and you will only have a relationship with someone else who is into that.
My dad's a tattooist; my stepmom a body piercer.
Here's a tip: Ribs aren't a good place to get tattoos, it's a very tender area. Consider the consequences of a tattoo on a joint or heavily-moving part of your body, as it will cause the area to heal slower if not laid to rest most of the day.
The more you know.

You're and ugly motherfucker.
I did a Scarification/Tattoo/Piercing thread a while ago, it died, I'll find it if I can so you can just take the Scarification part out.
