The folks at HDMI Licensing are announcing HDMI 2.0 officially. Arriving just in time for the wide rollout of a new generation of Ultra HDTVs, it adds a few key capabilities to the standard. With a bandwidth capacity of up to 18Gbps, HDMI 2.0 has the ability to carry 3,840 x 2,160 resolution video at 60fps. It also has support for up to 32 audio channels, 'dynamic auto lipsync' and additional CEC extensions. The physical cables and connectors remain unchanged.
This makes me very happy.
I wish HDMI cables carried a litle bit more power, it would make those little Android powered sticks for your TV so much more tidy.
Fuck yeah 4K at 60fps. Now to wait for the TVs to get cheap.
Will it work with stuff that is normal HDMI? Or do we need to upgrade the ports like for USB 3.0.
holy fuck 32 channels of audio
Will it work with stuff that is normal HDMI? Or do we need to upgrade the ports like for USB 3.0.
Its backwards compatible.
The socket & cable are completely unchanged, but the protocol is different, it negotiates between devices and settles on the commonly supported format.
Like how USB 1.0 devices work in USB 2.0 controllers.
oh boooOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I loved the first one, great actors and an amazing soundtrack.
Can't wait for the sequel.

HDMI 2 - 4k Boogaloo?
only 60fps?
so does that make 120hz tvs worthless?
only 60fps?

Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
I wish HDMI didn't make my screen so damn white
I have 2 normal jacks and an HDMI jack and 2 screens, they're perfectly synced, can't use HDMI or it makes the main one awkwardly whiter
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
to be fair I'd rather everything ran at constantly over a huge fps on max then cap it at 30 because then I wouldn't have to worry about FPS ever. Higher framerate GENERALLY means it runs smoother. For me it's more about it running smoother than looking smoother. At 30 fps or so it's smooth enough, higher than that the game itself runs smooth because it doesn't need more of your GPU/CPU.
of course I'm not going to buy some super special monitor, its just that that means I know it runs well.
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
Oh my god please shut the fuck up.
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
Oh boy you've done it now.
(tip: the eye doesn't see in FPS, but there are framerates we won't differentiate)
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
There is a definite difference between 30fps and 60fps. Plus 120hz is good for 60fps 3D
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
watch a movie/play a game on a 120hz tv and then say that again
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
There will always be at least one. I hope you're proud over yourself.
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
that's an urban legend you know

It's the ultimate idiot trap, people read it and then spread it without having any idea what they're talking about.
Why the fuck do you need that when the human eye can't even see 60 fps?.
Someone failed biology
only 60fps?

It means it can do half the resolution at 120hz, or a quarter (1920x1080) at 240hz, etc.
There is a definite difference between 30fps and 60fps. Plus 120hz is good for 60fps 3D
beyond 60 its really at that point the computer needing less computing to run the game and you never get fps drops down to a huge degree
the most annoying thing is going into a fight from 80 fps and then suddenly the fucker drops to 20 and it's just "Holy shit are you for real" and you die and the end
Well there goes the whole thread.

A++ on the fact that doesn't compare 120 to 60.
Also the elitism of "Bro, you don't understand unless you it 120, YOU CAN SEE FOREVER" is stupid. There isn't a difference unless you apply motion blurring which actually helps lower framerates look fluid.

The difference between 60 hz and 120 hz is a pretty solid and noticable one. I am not sure where you're getting this "elitism" from.
Also a comparison between 120 and 60 is irrelevant in regards to the post you replied to, good job at making yourself come across as a dick.

I guess I've never seen nor do I care for it as I'm fine with 60 frames per second. Plus, everyones talking about it even though TV and Movies are just now push to to 40 to 50 frames per second and yet none of us complain. And it really in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter, the images need to look fluid. Motion blur is actually a more stable, less CPU/GPU hogging effect that would do the same thing as pushing it 120 hertz.
Which by the way, we don't even know if 120 is the magical number, it might not be. All of this shit is light and illusions, so it really doesn't matter.

Who says its a magical number, its just twice 60hz so you can do vsync properly.
Framerates also affect input lag, you wouldn't neceassarily notice the visible difference between 60 and 120, but you would feel the difference when aiming.
Motion blur is actually a more stable, less CPU/GPU hogging effect that would do the same thing as pushing it 120 hertz.
Yes, of course. Who is saying that it isn't?

The point was that someone said "you can't see 60 fps" which is an incredibly ignorant and false statement.
