The song was broadcast simultaneously on Tuesday on BBC One, Two, Three, Four and Radio 1, 2, 4, 6 and 5 Live. The track, which will also be released in aid of Children in Need, features 27 artists across all musical genres. They include Sir Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Chris Martin, Sam Smith, Brian May, Jamie Cullum and Nicola Benedetti. BBC local and national radio stations, BBC World Service, 1Xtra, 4 Xtra, Asian Network and BBC iPlayer and iPlayer Radio also came together to play the song at 20:00 BST (19:00 GMT). BBC Radio 3, the BBC News Channel and BBC World News were due to air it shortly afterwards. I don't think I like it.. obviously set design and video is beautiful, but somehow this cluster of singers just kept highlighting to me how similar, and how painfully autotuned most of them were. Like whoever that very first singer was, jesus christ. Half the famous people in weren't in my opinion adding any passion or interesting inflections to the melody, some of them even look bored while singing, and the addition of their own "style" to the line was so constrained you just get the odd accent - like whoever was on the swing's glotal stops - but nothing more interesting than that, and no attempt to bring the idea together as something that flowed, or as an actual whole song. I think on the whole that cover has so much less spirit and less interest than the freaking bioshock infinite cabaret cover. Anyway maybe I'm just being stupid and wrong.
Obligatory
This pleases me, Seeing Brian Wilson himself and Brian May there make me smile.
It was kind of boring and felt like it had CGI just to have it
Lacks David Bowie and a better arrangement. I mean, if you make a new version of an old song, you might as well change it up a bit.
Requires more Roger Taylor, David Bowie, and Muse
Christ, 29 different musical groups. Toss in a choir and multi-member bands and you're reaching to something more like 40 people in one video. I get that it's for charity, but that's way too many people for a three-minute song.
More Stevie Wonder, please.
No Steven Hawking. BBC - 0 New Pink Floyd - 1

lorde sounded drunk

I like how Brian Wilson's voice is double tracked just like in the original.
I like how Brian Wilson's voice is double tracked just like in the original.
that's probably mostly because can't fucking sing anymore [editline]9th October 2014[/editline]
I don't think I like it.. obviously set design and video is beautiful, but somehow this cluster of singers just kept highlighting to me how similar, and how painfully autotuned most of them were. I don't think there was any autotune at all in this?
Maybe a little but since most of them are really good singers and they literally only have to record a single line each it shouldn't be too hard to record a good one
It's probably mostly natural (and it's embarrassing that you even need to doubt it), but I really dislike the way some of those people sing. Taste differs of course, but still.
I like how Brian Wilson's voice is double tracked just like in the original.
Carl Wilson actually sings on the original version of God Only Knows. Also, I think it has more to do with his voice going out rather than a throwback. It's a bit sad, but even Paul McCartney needs to do it on occasions.
