Theresa May is due to make a statement in Downing Street at 11.15am amid speculation the Prime Minister could call an early general election. Mrs May is scheduled to make her statement immediately following a meeting of her Cabinet. Downing Street is yet to comment on what Mrs May will say, but statements outside Number 10 are highly rare and usually reserved for only the most significant announcements. The last time Mrs May spoke to the nation in front of the famous black door was after she succeeded David Cameron as PM. Perhaps unsurprising. There's little or no chance of serious opposition to the Tories right now. She's probably never going to get better polls.
What's the bet this snap election is going to be over Brexit? What's the bet the Conservative government has realised how much of a fuckup it is and wants a mandate to go ahead with it first?
Welcome to the most solid Tory rule since Thatcher. :hammered:
Probably for the best tbh. Labour will get annihilated but that was inevitable with Corbyn in charge, best to get it out the way now so he can resign and we've got some hope for 2022 or whenever.
where the hell did that come from?
I reckon lib Dems will get more seats than labour. If labour loses Corbyn will have to step down
I reckon lib Dems will get more seats than labour. If labour loses Corbyn will have to step down
Yeah you'd think so but I wouldn't put it past him to cling on. Most leaders would have stepped down when they lost the confidence of 80% of their MPs.
where the hell did that come from?
The other parties aren't in great places right now and May is hoping if she wins it'll show the other parties that the country is behind her and stop them from fighting her on Brexit.

I really dislike May but there isn't anyone to oppose her, it's a real shitty situation and I know she's going to reduce our rights shit on the poor and disabled even more
Corbyn must be sweating right now. [editline]18th April 2017[/editline] Hope lib dems regain a lot of seats.
Election before the real effects of Brexit are felt. [editline]18th April 2017[/editline] Smart. Also lol Corbyn. His supporters will finally see how irrelevant he is.
Tories are polling 20 points ahead of Labour as of this week. Pretty transparent attempt to get an extra two years in power once everyone realises what a shit idea Brexit was. At least this might give the other parties a shakeup.
I think there's a hidden hatred against the tories that, even with Corbyn as leader, could see them reduce their majority.

I don't understand this country at all. The sitting government is responsible for the greatest blow against civil liberties in our particular country in years, never mind Brexit, and we're about to vote them back in again. Can we really not find anybody better
I really hope this backfires as hard as Brexit did and these twats are removed.
This is fucked for someone who dislikes the Tories. Who the fuck do you even vote for in this situation? Monster raving Looney party?
No real surprise here. Who is a viable alternative? The tories are probably more unpopular now than for a long time but will still win hands down.
This is fucked for someone who dislikes the Tories. Who the fuck do you even vote for in this situation? Monster raving Looney party?
Seems like the Lib Dems are the only viable option unfortunately. I have vague hopes that Labour + Lib Dems + Greens + SNP can work together and put a coherent Anti-Brexit campaign forward but that's never going to happen.
This is fucked for someone who dislikes the Tories. Who the fuck do you even vote for in this situation? Monster raving Looney party?
Depends on where you live pretty much
I really hope this backfires as hard as Brexit did and these twats are removed.
Has Brexit backfired already?
God I fucking despise Theresa May. The other parties really need to buckle the fuck up, lib dems need to become serious again and labour need to have this magical thing called structure
I really hope this backfires as hard as Brexit did and these twats are removed.
A comforting fantasy.
Sneaky lib dem seat grab?
Labour need to get decimated - for their own good.
The election is pretty much a foregone conclusion and everyone knows it. In reality, the only purpose this will serve will be as an official referendum on whether or not Jeremy Corbyn should be the leader of the labour party.
