The board plans to vote on the issue next week, The Dallas Morning News reported. Texas recently went through a bruising debate about the teaching of U.S. history. While social conservatives on the board won most of what they wanted, two of them lost in the Republican primary and will be off the board next year, the newspaper said. Randy Rives, an Odessa businessman who ran unsuccessfully for the board in the primary, proposed the resolution. "Diverse reviewers have repeatedly documented gross pro-Islamic, anti-Christian distortions in social studies texts," the draft resolution says. The resolution also charges some texts present "sanitized definitions of 'jihad' that exclude religious intolerance or military aggression." It says textbooks devote more space to Islam and emphasize Christian violence against Muslims during the Crusades while downplaying or omitting similar actions by Muslims, the newspaper said. Some board members charge that "Middle Easterners" are investing in U.S. textbook companies to push their views.
Longer Dallas Morning new article mentioned in this one: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/091510dntexeducation.28d07a4.html

Please open to chapter 14 where we will discuss killing freedom lovers and spreading the word of allah.
"The meany historians spend time talking about how we raped and murdered thousands of people, but they don't talk as much about how the mooslams raped and murdered thousands of people! :saddowns:"
I don't remember any reading any muslim bias...
Muslim bias to Texas conservatives is any paragraph not praising Jesus (or Reagan).
Please open to chapter 14 where we will discuss killing freedom lovers and spreading the word of allah.
Srsly? Freedom lovers don't make me laugh. Muslim Bias? Ok if their is Muslim bias in it than go ahead and remove it. I don't care if they keep it or remove it. Well, there shouldn't be any bias in school textbooks, or anything that pertains to school in that matter.
So, they basically want to emphasize more on religious violence committed by Muslims, and this is news worthy why? All religions have committed atrocities throughout history, and if it's true what they say, in fact if any atrocities committed by any religion is downplayed, it should obviously be corrected. Though seeing as how it's the same(?) board that wanted to completely rewrite history in their books, I am a bit split on it.
Christian violence against Muslims during the Crusades
Well no shit? How about we remove the White man violence against the Indians while we're at it. Though I don't remember any Muslim bias in any of my old text books.
Let's write some books about gay cartoon characters and hide them in elementary schools! Death to the Hetrosexual Cartoon Paridgam
The same with my Textbook in Ontario. I went through it annotated different parts. They really misrepresent the history, not one mention of conquest.
I don't remember Muslims being mentioned in my textbooks.

I spent all of high school in Texas and I don't remember any ounce of Muslim bias. They're probably just being bigots again.
unless you count 9/11, which I don't.
I would love to see some actual examples of this so-called bias.
unless you count 9/11, which I don't.
Nothing really biased in 9/11 besides a few al queda members ran a plane into the WTC.
Bye Mesopotamia you were fun

The first mention of military campaigns is the crusades and the reconquista.

I can say well, I was reading this book in Canada and their was a lot of bias in it against muslims, but what proof do I have to to prove that very statement?
Wikipedia should start publishing textbooks.
That is true. My AP World textbook didn't mention any kind of Muslim conquest at all.
That is true. My AP World textbook didn't mention any kind of Muslim conquest at all.
Like I said pics or it did not happen.
-snip, badly worded-
These guys probably don't even know what the conquest is they just want to compare 9/11 to the crusades. [editline]06:34PM[/editline]
If you're American it's highly doubtful that your textbook mentioned the first world war at all.
wat
If you're American it's highly doubtful that your textbook mentioned the first world war at all. Even so, by 15 you should have a knowledge of it anyways, school or not.
And already you have proven you don't know what you're talking about
brb, moving to nearest state that isn't texas
Most states that border Texas use the books that Texas approves to save money.
