Prague has declared a state of emergency as flood waters englulf the city
The Czech capital Prague declared a state of emergency as the worst flooding for more than a decade tore into the city, threatening to engulf the streets of its historic heart.
Supported by troops and volunteers, Prague's fire brigade erected metal flood barriers and sandbag walls in a battle to keep the River Vltava at bay while the city zoo's tigers were tranquillised as part of an animal exodus to the safety of dry ground.
Schools were closed, much of the Prague transport system shut down and the famous Charles Bridge spanning the Vltava, usually jammed with tourists, was closed.
Days of torrential rain have hit central Europe and turned placid rivers into raging, muddy torrents that have claimed the lives of eight people and destroyed scores of buildings across the Czech Republic, southern Germany and Austria. Nine people are missing.
In the Czech Republic, more than 7000 people have been evacuated. Petr Necas, the Czech Prime Minister, said he had ordered the release of emergency funding for people who had lost their homes to the flooding.
The country's Health Ministry warned of the spread of waterborne diseases owing to flooding disrupting water supplies and flushing raw sewage on to the streets.
Loads of family that live near and in Prague, thankfully the flooding hasn't affected them as of yet.

On the bright side, the grass seems to be greener in the second picture :/
I can't imagine how much damage has been done to those buildings though.

That's not Prague, that's the German town Passau. If remember correctly, 3 rivers come together in that town.

That's Passau. Prague is actually doing fairly well. And I think the water is culminating. Snapped this next to my uni today. it was flooded back in 2002, but the barriers and cleaning up is helping hugely this year.
Obviously this part of the city is a lot better off, since the walls around the river are huge. But even the rest of Prague is pretty good with all the erected barriers by the river front.
Standard waterline.

Also the english name for the Vltava river is generally the german one - Moldau. So kinda surprised they named it Vltava. Also the article is late. The state of emergency was sunday-monday night.
They also managed to close up most of the sewage this time so it didn't flood trough that either. The only thing most people are experiencing is the closure of a number of metro stations since they want to be safe rather than sorry.

Five deaths in the cz to date. An eldarly couple in a collapsed shack, two idiots onva raft and a man swelled into a sewage drain as far as I know.
My old University gave all students 1 week free to help shoveling sand, filling bags and so on, my federal country closed the 3 major finance offices.
Urg.
