Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.
Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.
Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.
The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel's world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.
Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: "Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world. We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."
Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

never expected this to happen
About God damn time.
Third times the charm right?
It's a shame Marvel doesn't own movie rights to spider man, unfortunately for them he costs way too much to be profitable. At least they're agreeing on this though, its progress.
Can't wait for Spiderman and Ironman fighting each other :v:
Awesome. Wonder what this means for Sony's "Sinister Six".
makes sense for civil war
I hope Sony's going to give up on trying to make a Spider-Man cinematic universe, then. We did NOT need those movies they were planning.
I hope this means the are getting rid of Garfield and Avi Arad.

Maybe they can wiggle it into the MCU?

IIRC, getting rid of them was one of the conditions of Marvel in this deal.
Please have Fox do the same with X-Men.
makes sense for civil war
It's almost necessary for Civil War.
Alright Marvel, I want
-No fucking origin story (a quick recap 10 minutes at most)
-A villain that isn't Green Goblin or Venom
-JK Simmons back
And I'm good

Looks like Thors been pushed back. Spidey taking his old spot?

[B]IT'S HAPPENING!

pretty sure it won't be a reboot.

Marvel doesn't want to have the ties of the current spider man series.
Garfield is a great spiderman, but everything else is lacking, so they're going to reboot spider-man. Early articles stated that we would see him already well into his role as a super hero for quite some time, just so we don't have to see another origin story so soon.
I have full faith in what Marvel plans on doing with the character though.

That was part of the Marvel agreement in the old e-mails, no Garfield.
Also I'd like to praise our glorious leader who without his amazing hacks this might have never happened.

Wait so can anyone confirm if Spiderman will be rebooted or not? I really hope that TASM 1 and 2 won't become canon in the MCU.

I think the point of the 'co producing' aspect is that essentially Marvel will be creating the new Spider-Man universe for Sony. Sony just has to follow the roadmap after that.
So what we'll see is Marvel's MCU Spider-Man, followed up by Marvel's Sony produced Spider-Man standalone movies. This is a win/win for both studios, since Marvel will elevate their movie series beyond everyone's wildest dreams at one shot, and Sony has their series killing past wiped clean. They can start fresh, after being schooled by the best in the business.

I don't think they should risk using Miles Morales as a character. He isn't known to the majority of movie goers. Right now the news that Spiderman is joining Marvel is big, unless they ride the coat tails and say they are going to introduce Miles Morales, I think more people will just be confused.
They should stick with Parker for this iteration and story they currently have going.

I'm gonna be honest, I wouldn't cast Glover as Miles, I'd just cast him as black Peter. Miles isn't really interesting enough, especially without Peters legacy.

I agree. That would be a better choice to do if they do want to change something significant about this new Spiderman.
I don't know much about Miles and his story line, I just know that a very small amount of people know who he is compared to Parker.
I also don't know much about Glover having a backing from several people discussing this topic to be Miles spiderman.
Guess I'll look up Miles origin/story this weekend.
can I play spiderman this time
Man fuck that, I loved Garfield
sorry haters but that man was spider man, man

No Toby please, he has 3 emotions that he cycles through, and is underwhelming
