UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has been invited to take part in a TV debate with David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg ahead of next year's general election.
The BBC, ITV, Sky and Channel 4 have announced plans to hold three debates.
One would involve a head-to-head debate between just the Conservative and Labour leaders, and another would include the Liberal Democrat leader.
The other debate would involve all three leaders plus Mr Farage.
The broadcasters said the proposed formats reflected "changes in the political landscape" since the three prime ministerial debates during the 2010 general election, which featured Conservative Mr Cameron, Labour's Gordon Brown and Lib Dem Mr Clegg.
His party is polling higher than the Liberal Democrats, they're set to gain more seats and they won a national election back in May. Sure they might not form a majority but they're a nationwide force to be reckoned with none the less.

the green party has held brighton pavillion since 2010 and polls suggest they're overtaking the lib dems, they don't even get a foot in a debate or taken seriously on tv interviews.
the only reason ukip are a "nationwide force" (certainly not in scotland or wales i'd say it's more of a southern thing) are because the bbc, itv and itn are peddling them as the next big thing, increasing knowledge of them. without this kind of coverage, they'd continue to be the laughing stock they always were.

The government went out of their way with their BBC and tabloid chums to try and ruin UKIP in a pretty big media campaign. Ultimately they found out its a double bladed sword, as from what I've seen its made a lot of people resent the BBC, the government and just given more support to UKIP due to the bullying nature of it all. Now the they're all trying to play nice, as they can be a big threat.
People like a underdog.
Sick of hearing about this cunt, the BBC might as well give him his own channel.

The English Channel already suffices for him :v:

He won't be happy with that until its full of sea mines and the coasts covered in barbed wire.
So many UKIP haters here, hating with no valid reason other than that UKIP are new and will contend with their favorite party.

But wouldn't the alternative be a climate like America's where the entire political system is composed of two parties?

The all-knowing one speaks.
Is it really impossible that we've been listening to what Nigel Farage says, and looking up the views of his members, and just find them to be reprehensible?
I completely agree with this. It makes watching some of the dull moments in Question Time hilarious. They had a racist politician on a while back, too funny to watch.

To be honest any party with that level of popularity deserves to be on the debate. I mean I don't like the Tories but it doesn't mean I think they shouldn't be allowed in the debate.

Same reason Nick Clegg gets invited.
It will have looked more like a competition when Ed or David win.
We need to establish a proper set of criteria for future debates like you need this number in opinion polls and need to be standing in this many seats

I don't like ukip for the following reasons:
Party leader is a hypocrite, claiming to do something different when he is already guilty of tax evasion and misusing his expenses. He sets a bad example, appealing to the worse aspects of society, sexism, xenophobia, alcoholism, nationalism. He's a liar using false statistics (a few months ago in debate vs nick clegg, here are some stats, half made up, half taken from a study in germany 3 years ago) to back his arguments and whipping up hysteria for support. Right so thats Farage, it would be bad if I just attacked him and not his party so lets look at policy.
This country is built on immigration, immigrants start more businesses than the natives and are less likely to claim benefits. They arguably work harder also. On a more subjective note the culture they bring has since the beginning been part of our culture, English is a mix of all kinds of languages and our culture is a mix also so much so that the stuff we call "indian" wouldn't be recognised in India anymore.
Then there's making immigrants pay for NHS, education and not getting houses benefits. They would become second class citizens.
People would come here and be forced to live in ghettos, lack of education and low social value would make crime rife, lack of healthcare would make diseases spread, lack of being treated as equals would make contempt and hatred rife. There would be more terror attacks, more racism, more theft, more assault and more exploitation. You treat people like second class citizens and they would become that. Daughters would work the street to pay for their dads life saving op, sons would work illegally not paying taxes in shady jobs to pay for the leaky 1 room apartment a family of 4 live in.
Healthcare, education and being treated like humans should be a right, if you are in the EU or not. Not offering free healthcare to a part of society will only serve to turn it into a shit heap, then that shit heap would spread to our own people.
Them being mostly conservative would probably erode the NHS/social services further till only those who can afford it will have a good quality of life.
I don't mind that UKIP oppose my favorite party, so do Labour and Lib dems, but the values UKIP stands for and the methods they use to garner support (lies, hyperbole, hysteria, racism) are absolutely abhorrent, saying that I'm glad UKIP oppose my favorite party. UKIP stands for everything I stand (sit at my computer typing rambling rants) against.
He will spout the same unsourced bullshit he always spouts and then everyone will claim he "won" the debate.
SNP: Third largest UK party, 5/11 of the seats in Scotland in the last election and predicted for a landslide majority in the next election; no TV invite.
UKIP: One MP, smaller membership; tv invite.
What.

It's almost like the media/government doesn't want SNP to be taken seriously or something.
So many UKIP haters here, hating with no valid reason other than that UKIP are new and will contend with their favorite party.
well why should we like UKIP?
also, the BBC is essentially government controlled, so it's up to the ruling party whoever gets a voice in these tv debates, no matter how much the BBC claims and has claimed to be non-partisan

Well maybe it's because the SNP are just in Scotland while Ukip are in all of the UK. Besides doesn't Scotland get it's own General election debates? I'm pretty sure that they did in 2010.
So many UKIP haters here, hating with no valid reason other than that UKIP are new and will contend with their favorite party.
ukip isn't your favourite musician. they're an irresponsible, economically uninformed party filled with liars and the elite, that will say anything to get your vote.
do you actually know why you enjoy ukips policies or do you support them because they're 'new' (they're not new. they've been around since 1993)
So many UKIP haters here, hating with no valid reason other than that UKIP are new and will contend with their favorite party.
Hah no, I dislike UKIP because their polices are fucking out of whack, their leader is a fucking nutjob, most of the party members are racist bigots who backpedal so fucking hard when pulled about it that it's just fucking comical. Some points I agree with, others I hugely disagree with and frankly, I don't want this unstable party anywhere near to holding power in the government. They are a mini-BNP, terrible but not batshit crazy.
Maybe you should think about that before just spouting shit.
David Cameron has responded to the plan questioning the inclusion of UKIP and the exclusion of the Greens, as well as the timing of the debates
Well over 50% of people in Scotland are living on benefits of some kind
They sure do like accurately representing us all! I also remember you being vehemently anti-independence, so why are you wanting us to have our own debates and not take part in the UK ones? If we aren't treated as part of the UK why the fuck should we stay? Why can't we just have a string of debates and have all non-independents involved - leaving none of the main parties left out?
"UKIP are in all of the UK"
They have elected representation in all of the United Kingdom.

Because the SNP are irrelevant to anyone outside of Scotland and Scotland makes up about 10% of the population of the UK and a percentage of less than that actually vote for the SNP, this means that for about 90-95% of the Uk's population having the SNP there would be pointless, while the the Conservatives, Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Ukip are fielding candidates everywhere in the country. Not only this but because the SNP want to break up the country, why should we give them a nationwide voice?

Quite the iconic image, one staring at the ceiling, the other two having a leg up.
