The troubled federal health insurance website will be fixed by the end of November, giving uninsured Americans two weeks to get signed up in time to have health insurance by the earliest possible date, officials pledged Friday.
One of the main government contractors, QSSI, has been assigned to oversee the fix, says Jeff Zients, the newly appointed chief White House economic adviser who’s been tasked to fix the logjammed website.
“We are confident that by the end of the November, healthcare.gov will be smooth for the vast majority of users,” Zients told reporters on a conference call.
“Over the last week we worked with a team of experts to conduct an assessment of the overall state of the healthcare.gov site," Zients said. They lent "fresh eyes" to the problems plaguing the site. “The system is getting better,” he added. “There is a lot of work to do but healthcare.gov is fixable.”
....The federal government says about 700,000 people have been able to at least start the sign-up process in the 36 states served by the federal website, as well as in the 14 other states and Washington, D.C., which are operating their own sites.
this should be interesting.
Or you know, wrong.
They've had 3 years to get it ready. Even if they fixed it tomorrow there would be no excuse.

no dude remember its the corporations trying to sabotage the president
everyone's in on it: cgi federal, an animatronic j. edgar hoover, and the vast right wing conspiracy!
I didn't realize it was so hard for our government to fix / create a website.

The government needs to keep its priorities straight.

From what I've read the actual coding of the website is complete shit. The actual server load is only half the problem.
It is weird how people are saying that this shows the Healthcare law is bad. It may be or may not be, but that does not depend on how the website was make.
You can design the perfect car but have it end up fucked up because someone on the assembly line messed something up.
It is not Obamacare that is broken, but the US Government's contract system, that makes it so the shittiest companies always get the most lucrative contracts.
Man this website was totally worth paying $500,000,000 development costs for!
No it's not. It's ridiculous. Websites like this one could be made for <$100,000 by most website development studios, and work far better than the current one does.
Facebook only reached 500million in funding after they'd been operating for 5 years already.
Twitter raised 360million in funding. LinkedIn and Spotify were sub $250mil and Instagram was like $50mil. All these sites were probably mostly functional before they even raised any funding.
The relatively high cost of these two examples is mainly down to server power alone due to the masses of users, not even development costs (Facebook cost practically nothing in it's early days because it was all developed in-house).
I opened this thread and the optimism was so powerful that I was hit by all the amplified optimism rainbows directly in the eyes.
I'm also blind now.
Please help me.

Of course it's terrible, there's no real accountability in government. You get to spend other people's money and have almost no repercussions for failing.

the repercussions are the election cycles.
It is not about the party or policy though. Both Democrats and Republicans participate in this asinine system of contracting.
They could have given the job to Google or some random assholes in Silicon Valley and it would have been cheaper and much better.

There are a whole lot more non-elected government workers than elected ones.
I remember seeing on CNN someone in the Obama administration trying to say Obama didn't know it would be a disaster.
You mean to tell me the president wasn't keeping informed about the status of his key piece of legislation which is the epitome of his presidency?
So either he is heavily incompetent, or he knew. I'd say it's the latter.
The site worked for me, and i started the sign up process, but jesus fuck it wanted to know every detail about me to even give a rough estimate.
It made me give my full name, address, phone number, email, it also asked for my SSN but that was optional.
Then it asks if i file my own taxes or if im on someone elses.
I answer it, then it asks for the full name, address, and optionally the SSN, of both my parents.
I gave up signing up there. I felt nervous enough giving out my own info, fuck that
But it is a Government website

What, you think they're only going to use it for health insurance stuff? That's a good joke. If we've learned anything about the government over the past year it's that they keep and store every bit of information you give them and will use it however they please.
To the people saying this is a shambles, you do have to consider that there were 19 million visits to the website. There is no way for something to not go wrong at that point.

What the fuck did you think you would need to give them, just your name and email address? This is for your health insurance.
Do you get paranoid about ordering a pizza because they ask you for your address?

You feel nervous about giving the government your government issued SSN?

You mean the ones that blew up because they cut corners when building the facility?
No thanks. I'd rather not have medical data stored on such poorly managed infrastructure.
And people say Facepunch is a liberal hivemind :v:

Id expect information about myself, when i had selected just a quote for myself. I did not expect having to give out my information, plus my parents information, for a quote on just myself.
I wasnt even interested in purchasing insurance, just in getting an idea on a price to see if its cheaper than what i currantly use. I do not feel comfortable giving all of that information out, when i may not even use their service.
Its the same thing as giving out my address, ssn, etc. just to get a car insurance quote.
Most sites now offer anonymous car insurance quotes, and that insurance is required.
Health insurance is optional, they should make that just as easy or people will give up on such a hassle and just pay the fine. The fine, even the highest one, is a metric fuckton cheaper than my current insurance

I dont mind giving it to them.
But online, for a service im barely interested in? No, i wont give it out

what the fuck dude
they already have all that fucking info stored, it's all confirmation
i don't think you understand what you're doing

I agree that it could (should) have been handled better, but oh god, the idea of google in charge of signing up the country for healthcare.
Then again, they are the pros of the "you opted out, so fuck you" technique.

As far as i know, they dont put every single person's info onto the healthcare.gov servers whether a person has signed up or not.
My info is most likely on other government servers, but the less servers its on, the better.
Maybe im just more cautious with giving out my info. To me, the less sites/servers that have my name, email, address, ssn, credit card, the better. Ive had enough people close to me have their information stolen, every one was by a well known business having a security breach on their servers.
You can say they have my info stored all you want, but the truth is, my info isnt on the healthcare.gov servers until i make an account and confirm my info.
And people say Facepunch is a liberal hivemind :v:
Being liberal doesn't mean agreeing with everything a self-describes liberal does. It means agreeing with liberal ideas.
Saying that this healthcare.gov fiasco is ridiculous has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative.
